NYT Connections puzzle #891, dated Tuesday, November 18, 2025, groups its tiles around a funny person, tomato varieties, Best Actress Oscar winners and words ending in synonyms for “location.” Start with the gentle clues below; the category names and complete groups are farther down.
Spoiler-light hints
Try the grid before revealing a category name or a tile. These clues move from broad nudges to a representative tile for each group.
- Yellow: Think of a person associated with making people laugh.
- Green: These are varieties of a familiar fruit often treated as a vegetable in the kitchen.
- Blue: Look for surnames of women who won the Best Actress Oscar.
- Purple: Each word ends with a synonym for “location.”
If you need one tile to get started, the representatives are RIOT for yellow, ROMA for green, MADISON for blue and SUNSPOT for purple.
All 16 tiles
The grid contains: STONE, PARASITE, GRAPE, JOKER, ROMA, BERRY, RIOT, NEEDLEPOINT, COMMONPLACE, CLOWN, SWANK, PLUM, MADISON, SUNSPOT, CHERRY and LAUGH.

Full categories and answers — spoilers
The groups for Connections #891 are:
- Yellow — Funny person: CLOWN, JOKER, LAUGH, RIOT.
- Green — Kinds of tomatoes: CHERRY, GRAPE, PLUM, ROMA.
- Blue — Best Actress Oscar winners: BERRY, MADISON, STONE, SWANK.
- Purple — Ending in synonyms for “location”: COMMONPLACE, NEEDLEPOINT, PARASITE, SUNSPOT.
Why the purple group works
The purple category is about the last word segment, not the whole tile’s meaning: COMMONPLACE ends in “place,” NEEDLEPOINT in “point,” PARASITE in “site,” and SUNSPOT in “spot.” Each ending can mean a location.
The tempting Oscar-film decoy
ROMA, PARASITE and JOKER can suggest a set of Oscar-winning films, but that idea accounts for only three tiles. JOKER belongs with CLOWN, LAUGH and RIOT; the Oscar-related group is instead the surnames BERRY, MADISON, STONE and SWANK. After identifying the tomato varieties, the endings of the remaining purple words help clarify the final group.
