The new Tomb Raider games in release order
-
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis — February 12, 2027
Legacy of Atlantis is a reimagining of the 1996 Tomb Raider, rather than a new numbered sequel. Its official announcement describes a hunt for pieces of the Scion across Peru, Greece, Egypt, and a Mediterranean island. Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog are developing it with Unreal Engine 5. The announced platforms are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. The official pre-order announcement gives the February 12, 2027 date and describes Standard, Deluxe, and Collector’s editions; physical editions are planned for select retailers. The announcement said Switch 2 pre-orders would become available later, so pre-order availability may differ by platform.
-
Tomb Raider: Catalyst — 2027, exact date not stated
Catalyst is a new adventure set in Northern India. Its premise centers on a mythical cataclysm, ancient secrets, and rival treasure hunters. The official page lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, and gives 2027 as the launch year without specifying a day or month. See the official Catalyst page and Crystal Dynamics’ projects page for the game’s setting and premise.
Does this release order match the story chronology?
Not necessarily. The official descriptions establish that Legacy of Atlantis reimagines the 1996 original and that Catalyst is a new adventure, but they do not state where Catalyst falls in Lara Croft’s timeline relative to the remake. So far, there is no confirmed basis for calling Catalyst a sequel or prequel to Legacy of Atlantis. Treat the list above as announced release order, not story order.

What if you want a Tomb Raider game to play now?
The two titles above are upcoming releases. The official Tomb Raider games catalog lists existing games and collections separately, including Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy, a 2021 collection, as well as the classic remastered collections. These are available catalog options, not entries in the release order of the two new games, and the official descriptions do not establish them as a chronological lead-in to Catalyst.
