Nintendo and Illumination revealed the final trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie in a movie-focused Nintendo Direct dated March 9, 2026 in the United States. The presentation also announced Donald Glover as Yoshi, Issa Rae as Honey Queen and Luis Guzmán as Wart. Nintendo said the Direct contained no game information.
What the March 9 movie Direct announced
The presentation was devoted to the film: its official description identifies the final trailer as the feature and explicitly says no game information was included. Nintendo’s movie page calls it “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct 3.9.2026.” Nintendo’s March 10 announcement refers to the same presentation using the Japan-local date. Nintendo’s official movie page and Nintendo’s March 10 announcement provide the event details.
Three newly announced voice roles
- Donald Glover voices Yoshi. Nintendo says Glover voices the character in all languages and territories worldwide.
- Issa Rae voices Honey Queen.
- Luis Guzmán voices Wart.
Full cast listed by Nintendo
Nintendo’s March 10, 2026 cast list names Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Donald Glover as Yoshi, Issa Rae as Honey Queen, Luis Guzmán as Wart, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Brie Larson as Rosalina. See Nintendo’s announcement for the complete cast and credits.
How the Yoshi reveal fits the timeline
The final trailer and Glover casting announcement followed an earlier Yoshi first look. In its January 25, 2026 announcement, Nintendo and Illumination revealed Yoshi and said the US and many other markets would open the film on April 1 rather than April 3. The March 10 announcement then confirmed Glover as Yoshi’s voice. Nintendo’s January 25 announcement covers the earlier reveal and date change.

- BOWSER JR. GIFTS FOR KIDS AND COLLECTORS: A standout birthday or Christmas gift for boys and girls 3 and up. The window box doubles as display packaging, and he makes a fun cake topper.
- COLLECT THEM ALL: Bowser Jr. joins Mario, Yoshi and Rosalina in Wave 1, each sold separately, so kids can pit heroes against villains and grow their collection of Super Mario figures.
When the movie opens
The film does not have one worldwide release date. Nintendo and Illumination list April 1, 2026 for the United States and many additional markets globally, April 24 for Japan, and dates through April for select other territories. Check local listings for a specific market rather than treating the US date as universal. The March 10 release announcement lists territory timing.
What the film is—and is not—based on
Nintendo describes The Super Mario Galaxy Movie as an animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros. and a follow-up to the 2023 film. It is produced by Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo, co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo, and distributed worldwide by Universal Pictures. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic return as directors; Matthew Fogel is the screenwriter, and Brian Tyler is the composer. Nintendo says the 2023 The Super Mario Bros. Movie grossed more than US$1.3 billion worldwide. Nintendo’s announcement provides the film details and gross figure.

These games are related to the film through the page, but they were not announcements from the movie Direct: Nintendo explicitly said that presentation would contain no game information. Nintendo’s FY2026 investor presentation identifies the combined release as downloadable-format-only software. The movie page links the games; Nintendo’s FY2026 investor presentation gives the format detail and says the 2023 movie earned over US$800 million worldwide in its first four weeks, a distinct early-run figure rather than a current lifetime total.
