The Strongest Pokémon of Every Type in Pokémon Legends: Z-A? What’s Actually Verified

No official source establishes the strongest catchable Pokémon for every type in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Here’s why a definitive list needs a verified roster, clear battle rules, and a stated DLC and Mega Evolution scope.

There is no verified official list of the strongest catchable Pokémon for every type in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. The official guides explain catching, leveling, Alpha Pokémon, and Mega Evolution, but do not provide a complete catchable roster or comparable battle stats. So a definitive all-types ranking would be guesswork. Here’s what the official information can establish—and what a reliable ranking would need to compare.

Why there is no reliable strongest-per-type list yet

“Strongest” depends on what is being compared: base stats, a particular battle role, a set level and moveset, or a Mega-Evolved form. The official gameplay guidance does not define one universal ranking, and the official pages available here do not supply the complete roster, species-by-species availability, or comparable battle data needed to name a winner for every type.

That matters because strength changes during play. Winning battles grants experience; leveling raises stats and can let Pokémon learn moves or evolve. A Pokémon’s practical value also depends on its moves and the battle situation, not simply its type or appearance. Without a consistent level, moveset, form, and battle context, a list of “strongest” Pokémon would imply more certainty than the evidence supports.

Alpha Pokémon are powerful, but not automatically the strongest

The official adventure guide describes Alpha Pokémon as especially powerful, larger, red-eyed, aggressive when alerted, and difficult to catch. These traits make Alphas worth considering when preparing a candidate list, but they do not prove that an Alpha is the strongest member of its type. The guide does not establish that every species has an Alpha form or provide a species-by-species Alpha roster.

Mega Evolution changes what counts as a type

Mega Evolution is a separate battle form that requires the Pokémon to hold a Mega Stone. Some Mega forms have different typings from their ordinary forms: the official profiles identify Mega Meganium as Grass/Fairy and Mega Feraligatr as Water/Dragon. Any type-by-type comparison that includes Mega Evolution must judge the Mega form under its changed typing, rather than silently treating it as the ordinary species.

Mega Stone access is not uniform

The official July 2025 guide describes Mega Stones being obtained through sources including the Stone Emporium and exchanges at Quasartico Inc. using Mega Shards found by breaking Mega Crystal clusters. A later official notice says the Mega Stones for Chesnaught, Delphox, and Greninja are Ranked Battle promotion rewards rather than normally obtainable through regular gameplay; it says redistribution in future seasons is planned. That announcement does not establish the current availability or timing of later rewards, so check the latest official notice before treating those stones as generally obtainable.

Decide what “catchable” means before comparing Pokémon

The official guide describes catching Pokémon in wild zones and elsewhere in Lumiose City. It also says Pokémon register in the Pokédex when caught, evolved, or traded. Those are different routes to a Pokédex entry: a guide to Pokémon the player can personally catch should not quietly include species that are only obtained through evolution or trade.

Scope also changes if the article includes Mega Dimension. The official DLC page describes additional story content after the main story and features Hoopa, Mega Raichu X and Y, and other Mega Pokémon. It does not provide a complete catchable roster. A valid ranking therefore needs to say whether it covers the base game alone or the base game plus DLC, and to specify whether it counts ordinary forms, Mega forms, and trade- or evolution-only entries.

How to catch and prepare candidates

In Lumiose City, explore wild zones and other areas where Pokémon appear. Throw a Poké Ball to attempt a catch; if a Pokémon is likely to flee, hide or approach from behind. Battling to lower its HP can make it easier to catch. The official guide also recommends using daytime to prepare for the Z-A Royale by battling wild Pokémon and stocking useful battle items.

  1. Choose the comparison rules. Decide base game or DLC, direct catches or all Pokédex entries, ordinary or Mega forms, and the level, moveset, and battle mode to compare.
  2. Build a verified candidate roster. For each Pokémon, confirm that it is available under those rules and record how it is obtained. The official sources cited here do not provide that complete roster.
  3. Compare like with like. Use the same level and battle assumptions for each candidate, and assess relevant stats, moves, role, and form. Do not treat Alpha status or height and weight as proof of greater battle strength.
  4. Check availability close to publication or play. Mega Stone sources include shops, shard exchanges, and time-sensitive Ranked Battle promotions, while DLC expands the game’s featured Pokémon and forms.

What the official information supports

  • Pokémon can grow stronger through experience and leveling, with stats, moves, and evolution changing over progression.
  • Alpha Pokémon are described as particularly powerful and harder to catch, but that does not identify the strongest species of each type.
  • Mega Evolution requires a Mega Stone and can change a Pokémon’s type.
  • The Mega Dimension DLC adds content beyond the main story, so rankings need a declared game-content boundary.
  • The official pages do not establish a complete, comparable strongest-per-type ranking.
