Choose your goal before you start
Saving everyone, pursuing a particular character outcome, and seeing every possible death are different goals. Use the all-survive path below as a practical route for the PS5 remaster, not a guarantee for every edition or patch. For trophy-specific paths, follow the conditions attached to that outcome: PlayStation’s official trophy tips describe specific scenarios, not necessarily the only way a character can live or die.

The developer warns that “Seemingly insignificant choices as well as huge moral dilemmas that will question your sense of fairness, good and evil, can have major unforeseen consequences.” Choices, relationships, and action sequences can all matter later.
PS5 remaster: practical route to keep all eight alive
The chapter-specific recommendations here follow the third-party PowerPyx PS5 remaster guide. Take care with Quick Time Events (QTEs): a correct choice can still be undermined by a missed action prompt.

- Jessica — Chapters 4 and 10: During Mike’s Chapter 4 pursuit, take the riskier paths and complete the QTEs. In Chapter 10, when Jessica and Matt hear a noise in the mines, choose to hide. PlayStation’s trophy tips also single out hiding in this scene as crucial to Jessica’s survival in the described scenario.
- Matt — Chapter 6: During the tower collapse, jump to safety at the first opportunity. The remaster guide also recommends giving Matt the flare gun in the tower.
- Chris — Chapters 6 and 8: Do not shoot Ashley at the end of Chapter 6, then survive the Chapter 8 chase. PlayStation’s trophy tips confirm a related trophy outcome when Chris declines to shoot himself in Chapter 6 and survives that chase.
- Ashley — Chapter 9: Stay with Chris and do not investigate or open the trapdoor if you are trying to keep her alive. The official trophy tips describe following a voice and leaving no trapdoor unopened as part of a different trophy path involving the loss of one of two characters.
- Emily — Chapter 8: Complete the chase QTEs; the remaster guide identifies failures in this sequence as fatal. When Mike has the choice, do not shoot Emily.
- Sam and Mike — lodge finale: When prompted, choose to save Mike, then hide at the remaining opportunities, following the remaster route.
- Josh — Chapter 10: Pick up the Scrawled Journal and use supportive dialogue choices. The guide says the precise requirements for Josh’s best outcome are not fully known, so this advice is not a guaranteed formula.
How to pursue a specific character’s outcome
Jessica
Her route combines an early pursuit with a later mine decision. For the all-survive path, take the risky Chapter 4 shortcuts without missing QTEs, then hide when she and Matt hear a noise in Chapter 10. The hide choice is also identified in PlayStation’s official trophy guidance for Jessica’s survival.
Matt
The tower collapse in Chapter 6 is the key branch highlighted by the remaster walkthrough: jump to safety at the first opportunity. Giving him the flare gun is another recommendation from that route.

Chris and Ashley
Chris’s fate can depend on the earlier gun choice as well as his Chapter 8 chase performance. For a documented trophy scenario, PlayStation specifies that he must decline to shoot himself in Chapter 6 and survive the chase in Chapter 8. Ashley’s Chapter 9 trapdoor choice points in the opposite direction: the remaster all-survive route says to stay with Chris and leave it alone, while PlayStation’s trophy advice includes following a voice and leaving no trapdoor unopened in a route that loses one of two characters.
Emily
Her Chapter 8 chase includes QTEs the remaster guide marks as fatal failure points. If Mike gets the option to shoot her, the all-survive route is not to take it.

Sam and Mike
The remaster’s all-survive route focuses on the lodge finale: choose to save Mike when asked and hide at subsequent opportunities. PlayStation’s trophy page also notes that Sam can have several encounters with the Psycho, but its trophy instructions should be read in their stated scenario rather than as a universal survival recipe.
Josh
Josh’s best outcome has additional conditions beyond getting the others through the night. The remaster guide recommends finding the Scrawled Journal in Chapter 10 and choosing supportive dialogue, while acknowledging that the exact requirements are not fully established.

Trying to lose everyone or see every death
There is no single, fully verified sequence in the cited sources that guarantees all eight deaths across every edition. The story branches through both decisions and action sequences, so a route intended to produce one character’s death may affect later scenes or other outcomes. For a specific trophy, use the corresponding official PlayStation outcome instructions; for broader exploration, change one consequential decision or QTE result at a time and track which outcome follows. PlayStation explicitly notes that some story-outcome trophies conflict, making separate runs necessary for the full set.
Edition and route caveats
Supermassive Games identifies the original release as a PS4 game; PlayStation lists PS5 and PC editions as well. The detailed checklist above is specifically for the PS5 remaster, and the available sources do not establish that every decision point, control prompt, or route behaves identically on PS4 and PC. Do not assume remaster-specific instructions transfer unchanged.
Official guidance also records other possible outcomes, such as Mike suffering a bear-trap injury in Chapter 5. Such examples illustrate that a character can survive while still suffering a lasting consequence; they are not substitutes for the chapter-specific conditions of a particular trophy.
