Geoff Keighley’s introduction of Highguard at The Game Awards 2025 mentioned the team’s past work on Titanfall and Apex Legends. Fans took notice, but the reference was not a Titanfall 3 announcement—and the available reporting does not establish that it was accidental.
What Geoff Keighley said about Highguard
At The Game Awards on December 11, 2025, Keighley introduced Highguard. GamesRadar reported his wording as: “comes from 61 members of the team that built Apex Legends and Titanfall.” The number and phrasing are attributed to GamesRadar’s account of the introduction; they are not an independently verified studio roster. The line described team members’ previous credits. It did not name Titanfall 3 or say that a new Titanfall game was in development.

The Game Awards’ official FAQ lists December 11, 2025, as the broadcast date. GamesRadar’s report says the reference prompted fans to hope a sequel might be announced, but the show offered no news about Titanfall’s future.
Why fans read the reference as a possible sequel tease
Titanfall has inspired earlier rounds of sequel speculation. GamesRadar recalls attention to Titanfall 2 updates and vague teases that ultimately did not lead to a Titanfall 3 reveal. That history helps explain why a passing mention of the franchise drew an immediate reaction; it does not prove that a sequel is coming now.

GamesRadar quoted individual fans reacting with phrases including “BAITED SO HARD,” a comment that their “heart skipped a beat” on hearing “from the creators of TF,” and “Do you know the definition of insanity?”—a reference to a familiar line from Far Cry 3. These are examples of comments reported by the outlet, not a survey or a measure of how the wider audience felt.
Was the Titanfall mention accidental?
“Accidental tease” goes beyond what the reporting establishes. GamesRadar reports that fans speculated after hearing the reference; the available account does not confirm Keighley’s intent, describe the wording as a mistake, or say that Respawn was signaling a sequel. No sourced explanation from Keighley or Respawn about whether the reference was accidental is established here.

What the event’s audience figures do—and don’t—show
The Game Awards said its 2025 show generated 171 million global livestreams, up 11% from its then-record 154 million in 2024. Those are event-wide figures, not counts of people who heard, noticed, or reacted to the Titanfall reference. Neither the available report nor the event metrics provide a statistic for Titanfall 3 interest or disappointed fans. See The Game Awards’ audience announcement.

Only a narrow conclusion is supported: Highguard was introduced, and its team’s reported past work on Titanfall prompted speculation. The reference itself was not a sequel reveal. The available reporting does not establish Respawn’s or Electronic Arts’ current development plans, so it cannot show either that Titanfall 3 is coming or that it will never happen.
