A PC build of Grand Theft Auto V attributed to modder @OptiJogos was reported at under 2.5 GB—but it is not the full game compressed into a smaller package. Reports say the build reaches that size by removing large parts of the map, missions, audio, and other content. What remains is a limited sandbox for walking, driving, and provoking police, not a substitute for GTA V’s campaign or online mode.
What the 2.5 GB claim actually means
RockstarINTEL reported on February 16, 2026 that @OptiJogos had reduced GTA V’s file size by 98%, to less than 2.5 GB. Gizmochina reported the next day that the build was under 2.5 GB, compared with well over 120 GB for the then-current game. These are media reports of the project’s size claim, not an independently verified measurement of a download. The larger figure is also a reported comparison, not a universal install size across every version and platform.

The important distinction is how the reduction was achieved: reports describe extensive deletion and reduction of game content, rather than a lossless way to fit the complete GTA V experience into 2.5 GB. This is an experimental cut-down build, not a compact version of the full game.
What reportedly remains—and what was cut
Basic sandbox play remains
RockstarINTEL says players can walk around a portion of Los Santos, steal and drive vehicles, use base-game weapons, and encounter police and the wanted system. Gizmochina likewise describes basic movement, car theft, and wanted-level interactions. Michael is the only selectable character described in the reports.

Most of the larger game experience is gone
RockstarINTEL reports that missions, audio, graphical effects, and North Yankton were removed. It describes a remaining area that includes Michael’s house, with no Franklin or Trevor selection, GTA Online content, shops with interiors, or cutscenes. Gizmochina also reports that story missions, cutscenes, most audio, interiors, GTA Online, and large areas of the map are absent, and that textures are heavily downscaled. GTA BOOM separately describes cuts to environmental audio, dialogue, radio stations, large areas, and high-resolution textures.
In practical terms, the reports portray a small, stripped-back playground rather than a shortened campaign. They do not establish that the build preserves the story, the full map, online play, or GTA V’s normal audiovisual presentation.

Performance claims conflict
RockstarINTEL says the build was shown running at around 30 FPS on a low-spec netbook. GTA BOOM reports roughly 7 FPS. Neither publication establishes a repeatable benchmark, a complete hardware configuration, or standardized gameplay conditions, so these figures should be treated as conflicting reports about demonstrations—not as expected performance on a particular PC.
It is not the same as a texture-compression mod
GTA BOOM also mentions GTA V Re-Sized, a separate texture-compression mod. That is not the OptiJogos project described in the 2.5 GB reports, and the reported footprint should not be taken as the result of ordinary texture compression alone. The coverage attributes the drastic size reduction to removing substantial content as well as reducing assets.

Availability and compatibility are not established
The February 2026 reports describe a PC demonstration, but they do not establish a stable, current official download page, a supported GTA V version, or reliable installation instructions. A reader should not assume that a link mentioned in coverage is still available or that the build will work with a particular game edition. The reports also do not describe this as an official Rockstar release or as a mobile or console version.

The striking figure is real as a reported claim about a drastically reduced build. It does not mean that someone has made the complete GTA 5 fit into 2.5 GB. The trade-off is the point: a much smaller footprint in exchange for a greatly reduced map, missing campaign and online content, fewer audiovisual assets, and limited sandbox activity.
