Why the purple group fits
A company has a boss, the E Street Band is associated with Bruce Springsteen—nicknamed “The Boss”—a mafia can have a boss, and a video game can feature a boss fight. The E Street Band connection is to Springsteen’s nickname, not a claim that the band itself has a single boss.

The complete purple set includes MAFIA. Parade’s March 9 answer page agrees on the first three groups but its displayed fourth group omits MAFIA; TechRadar lists the complete four-word group. TechRadar’s March 8 report identifies this as game #1002 and supplies the full board, hints, and groups. Parade’s March 9 report independently corroborates the dated puzzle and first three groups.

Connections puzzles reset at midnight according to a player’s time zone, so “today’s” puzzle can differ between readers near the date boundary. TechRadar’s Marc McLaren describes the daily timing this way: “A new NYT Connections puzzle appears at midnight each day for your time zone – which means that some people are always playing ‘today’s game’ while others are playing ‘yesterday’s’.” The answer here is specifically for Monday, March 9, 2026.
