The answer to Wordle #1937 on October 8, 2026, was STREW, meaning to scatter or spread things. Its uncommon W ending and relatively unfamiliar wording offer plausible reasons it may have challenged some players—but available reports disagree about its difficulty, and there is no verified count of streaks lost today.
What was today’s Wordle answer?
Wordle #1937’s answer was STREW. The verb means to scatter or spread things untidily, such as letting separate pieces fall across a surface. The answer is recorded by IBTimes Australia, Beebom, and an independent Wordle answer archive.
As in the daily puzzle’s usual format, players had six attempts and received color-coded feedback indicating whether letters were in the correct position, present in another position, or absent. The archive describes those mechanics; it is not an official current NYT rules page.
Why might STREW have been difficult?
The W at the end
STREW ends in W, a less common final letter for a Wordle solution than many players may expect. That can make the answer harder to recognize when guesses have narrowed the pattern but not revealed the last letter. IBTimes identifies the unusual ending as a possible source of difficulty.

The word itself
STREW is a valid, concise verb, but it may be less familiar in everyday conversation than many five-letter answers. IBTimes describes it as somewhat old-fashioned. A player who knows the meaning but does not readily think of the word could have trouble reaching it from letter clues alone.
These are plausible explanations, not measured causes of missed solves. A 2023 preprint examining predictive models of Wordle results reported no explicit relationship between word attributes and the share of hard-mode results in its analysis; that finding does not establish how players performed on this particular puzzle. How difficult was Wordle #1937?
Same-day coverage did not agree. IBTimes Australia reported an average of 4.8 guesses out of six, relaying a Times Wordle review cited through Insider Gaming. Beebom instead reported three guesses out of six and characterized the puzzle as average.
| Report | Difficulty figure or assessment | Attribution |
|---|---|---|
| IBTimes Australia, October 8, 2026 | 4.8 guesses out of six | Relayed from the Times Wordle review via Insider Gaming; the page does not provide a primary NYT data record. |
| Beebom, 2026 | Three guesses out of six; rated average | Beebom’s report and characterization; independent NYT confirmation is not provided. |
The two figures cannot be reconciled from the published detail: the sources do not provide enough information about their samples, attribution, or calculation methods. Treat them as separate reports, not as a single confirmed measure of how the full player population performed.

Did today’s puzzle break players’ streaks?
There is no verified figure for how many players lost a streak on October 8, and no confirmation from the NYT that this puzzle caused a streak-breaking event. The answer’s unusual ending and relative unfamiliarity could have made it troublesome for some solvers, but the available reports do not prove that it was unusually difficult for players overall.

- Who is making the claim? A publication’s rating is not automatically an NYT statistic.
- Where did a number come from? Follow the attribution chain, especially when an outlet is relaying another outlet’s report.
- What does the number represent? A reported average, a poll, and an editorial label such as “average” are not interchangeable.
- Is the method explained? Without comparable samples and calculation details, conflicting figures should remain separate.
