What should you do first in Throne and Liberty?
Follow the Adventure Codex or main story
Amazon Games recommends the main story quests, presented through the Adventure Codex, as the backbone for progressing, leveling, improving skills, and learning combat and other core mechanics. Start with the next story objective and use it to get oriented. The Codex can eventually require a higher character level before it lets you continue; if that happens, take on other available activities until you meet the requirement. Amazon’s progression guide explains the intended role of the story and contracts.

Collect contracts in towns and combine nearby objectives
When you enter a town, check its available contracts and favor local objectives you can complete near your current story route. For example, if a contract asks you to defeat nearby enemies and the Codex sends you into the same area, work on both rather than making a separate trip. Contracts can provide experience, crafting materials, Abyssal Contract Tokens, and Training Dew for the mastery of your equipped weapons.
Try optional activities when they suit your session
You do not have to stay on the story route every minute. Amazon’s guidance notes that activities such as dungeons and Conquest Battles are other ways to spend time and gain experience. Treat them as options, not prerequisites for a successful first session; choose what sounds enjoyable and return to the Codex when you want a clearer next objective.

Which weapons should a beginner use?
There is no universally best beginner weapon combination established by the official guidance. Choose based on the role and playstyle you enjoy, whether the skills feel comfortable, and how the combination works for you. If you are unsure, use the game’s Path of the Stars recommendations as a starting point rather than treating them as a guaranteed top build.
Use Path of the Stars to compare recommendations
Introduced with the September 2025 Solisium’s Awakening update, Path of the Stars presents weapon combinations and skills as you level. Its recommendation cards can include stats, active and passive skills, specializations, mastery modes, and a Guardian choice. Review the suggestions and try a combination that appeals to you; the cards are in-game guidance, not proof that one setup is best for every player. Read the Solisium’s Awakening update details.
Let comfort guide your first choice
For a first character, a weapon combination whose skills and role make sense to you is a more useful starting point than chasing an unsupported “best” ranking. As you play, pay attention to which abilities you like using and revisit the recommendations if you want another direction.

What has changed since launch?
Progression may move faster than older guides suggest
The September 2025 Solisium’s Awakening update introduced Hyperboost as an increased pace of progression and described it as available on all servers after that update. The update’s letter from Tico called it “an increased pace of progression for new players or existing players who want a fresh leveling experience.” Because live systems can change, check the current client for how Hyperboost is presented on your server rather than assuming an older guide describes today’s route.
Use current gear guidance, not removed system instructions
Update 4.0.0 removed the older enhancement, transfer, and sync systems; equipment growth now uses item levels and inheritance. That means launch-era step-by-step instructions for those removed systems are not appropriate for current gear progression. The same update also listed Nix progression and new level 56–60 missions. Consult current in-game prompts and the Update 4.0.0 notes before following a dated gear guide.
One dated example of why version checks matter: the Update 4.0.0 notes say existing equipment Lithograph Book entries ended on July 16, 2026 at 08:00 UTC, while Cooking and Fishing Lithograph Books continued. This is a specific change in those notes, not a general description of every current system.
Know the current setting without making it a first-day requirement
The official homepage highlights The Frozen Divide: Nix, including a new region, Gauntlets, co-op dungeons, level 60 progression, stronger gear, and open-world exploration. This describes the current official framing of the game, not a requirement to use a boost or leave the opening route. Check the official Throne and Liberty site for its current overview.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to make your first session manageable
- Use the Adventure Codex as your default next-step guide.
- In towns, collect contracts that overlap with nearby story objectives.
- Try Path of the Stars recommendations when choosing weapons and skills, but decide by your preferred playstyle and comfort.
- Take breaks from the story for optional activities if they interest you; they are not mandatory steps in a fixed opening sequence.
- Before following older gear advice, verify that it describes the current item-level and inheritance systems rather than removed enhancement, transfer, or sync mechanics.
Can you play with a controller?
The official 2024 launch notes say controller play was revamped, including improved camera controls and streamlined skill execution. That supports controller play as an input option, but the reviewed official information does not establish a current compatibility matrix by platform or certify particular controller models. Check your platform and current client settings before buying or relying on a specific device. See the launch-day update notes.
