To open the built-in Surf game in Microsoft Edge, type edge://surf in the address bar and press Enter. In Edge 83, Microsoft introduced it to the Stable channel starting with build 83.0.478.37; it could also be offered when Edge detected that the browser was offline.
How do I open the Edge Surf game?
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Select the address bar, type
edge://surf, and press Enter. - Choose a mode in the game. To switch modes later, open the game’s settings.
- Use the settings menu for instructions for your preferred input method. You can also turn on High visibility or Reduced speed there.
Surf is built into Edge; you do not need to download or install it separately. Microsoft announced its Stable-channel availability beginning with Edge build 83.0.478.37 on May 26, 2020. Microsoft’s announcement gives the original launch details.
Can I play Edge Surf when I’m offline?
Yes. Microsoft said Edge could offer a link to Surf when it detects that the browser is offline. You can also open it directly with edge://surf; the game was not limited to the offline screen.
Which game mode should I choose?

| Endless | Travel as far as possible while avoiding obstacles and the kraken. |
| Time Trial | Finish a fixed course as quickly as possible; coins can help shorten your time. |
| Zig Zag | Pass through gates in sequence. Missing a gate resets your streak. |
Modes are selected in the game settings. The game also includes hazards such as islands and other surfers, plus collectible hearts and boosts. Microsoft’s launch announcement says personal high scores are recorded by mode.

What controls and settings are available?
Microsoft documents keyboard, mouse, touch, and gamepad support, including Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro, and Xbox Adaptive controllers. Open the game’s settings for the instructions for each input method rather than relying on assumed key bindings.
- High visibility: Highlights hit boxes to make obstacles easier to identify.
- Reduced speed: Slows the game for a more relaxed pace.

Does Surf work in every Edge version and on every device?
No. Microsoft’s current feature page cautions that availability and functionality can vary by device type, market, and browser version. Its AllowSurfGame policy documentation lists Windows and macOS support for Edge 83 and later, Android as unsupported, and iOS support beginning with version 146. On managed devices, an administrator can disable the game; when the policy is disabled, Surf is unavailable both from the offline page and through edge://surf.
