To make a custom Roblox shirt, download Roblox’s classic clothing template, edit its mapped panels, export the image as a PNG or JPG, and preview it on a Block Avatar rig in Roblox Studio. If you meet Roblox’s creator requirements, upload it through Creator Dashboard as a Shirt.
Choose the right Roblox clothing template
A classic shirt is a 2D image that wraps around an avatar’s torso and arms. Use the shirt template when you want that coverage; a classic T-shirt is a square image displayed on the front of the torso, while pants cover the torso and legs. Roblox documents layered clothing separately, so this workflow is specifically for classic 2D clothing.
Download Roblox’s clothing template files from its classic clothing guide and choose the shirt template—not the T-shirt or pants template. The full template maps image regions to the avatar’s body surfaces. These are the dimensions Roblox gives for individual regions, not the dimensions of the entire exported image:

Edit the mapped panels
Open the downloaded shirt template in an image editor of your choice; Roblox does not require a particular application. Add your design within the labeled panels, keeping in mind that neighboring panels meet on the avatar’s surfaces. Inspect edges and transitions so a graphic intended for the front, for example, does not unintentionally continue onto a side or back panel.

Save or export the finished image as a PNG or JPG. Because details near body joints and panel boundaries can look different once wrapped onto the avatar, preview the image before uploading it.
Preview the shirt in Roblox Studio
- In Roblox Studio, open the Avatar tab and use Character to create a Block Avatar rig.
- Add a Shirt object beneath the rig.
- Select the Shirt object and assign your image to its ShirtTemplate property. The Shirt API reference identifies this property as the content used for the shirt texture on a Humanoid rig.
- Inspect the front, back, sides, arms, and joints. If seams or details do not align, revise the image and preview it again.
Upload the shirt through Creator Dashboard
- Open Creator Dashboard → Avatar Items → Classics.
- Upload the image, select Shirt as the asset type, and enter a name and description.
- Review the current creator requirements and fee, then submit.
Roblox’s classic clothing guide lists an upload fee of 80 Robux per submission. Roblox says uploading and selling require meeting its creator requirements; check the live page before submitting because fees and rules may change.

Know where classic shirts will display
A classic shirt is not guaranteed to display on every avatar. Roblox warns that many user-generated Marketplace avatars do not support classic 2D clothing. Its documentation does not provide a percentage, so check the avatar’s compatibility rather than assuming the shirt will work across all Marketplace avatars. Roblox distinguishes classic clothing from layered clothing in its avatar system overview.
