How to upgrade a faction merchant
- Find the faction’s merchant. Travel to the location associated with that faction and speak to its vendor. For example, the Veil Jumpers’ merchant is at their camp in Arlathan Forest.
- Check the shop requirements. Inspect the vendor interface for the current Faction Strength and material requirements. Requirements can vary by shop rank; use the values displayed in your playthrough rather than relying on an unverified rank-and-cost chart.
- Raise that faction’s strength and gather the listed materials. Relevant quests and selling valuables can contribute to Faction Strength. Collect any other items and gold the shop interface requests.
- Upgrade the shop. Once the requirements are met, choose the upgrade option in the vendor interface. The upgrade expands the merchant’s available inventory.
How to increase Faction Strength
Complete relevant quests
Faction quests can raise the strength of the associated group. Some main missions and companion quests can contribute as well. Quest availability changes as the campaign advances, so return to faction regions periodically and check for newly available work.
Sell valuables to the faction you want to support
Selling valuables to a faction merchant can provide gold and increase that faction’s strength. Some valuables reward one faction more than another, so check the displayed reward and sell to the merchant that gives the most useful strength increase for your goal. The available guidance does not establish a complete item-by-item reward chart or a single fastest method.
Faction Strength and shop rank are different
Faction Strength is a progression requirement that can increase through quests and trading. A shop upgrade is a separate interaction with the merchant: it uses the strength and materials shown in the vendor interface to unlock more inventory. Increasing strength alone does not replace the listed materials or trigger the upgrade automatically.

What to check if an upgrade is unavailable
- Confirm you are speaking to the merchant for the faction whose shop you want to upgrade.
- Compare your current Faction Strength with the requirement shown in that shop.
- Check for every listed material and gold requirement, not just the strength threshold.
- If you need more strength, look for faction, companion, or main quests and revisit faction regions as the campaign progresses.
- When selling valuables, review the displayed faction reward so the sale benefits your intended faction.
