Rockstar gave additional development time as its reason for changing the date, saying the extra months would help it finish the game with the level of polish players expect. The statement appeared in the company’s November 7, 2025 announcement.
Why did a former Rockstar developer mention May 2026?
The May date was real: Rockstar announced on May 2, 2025 that GTA 6 was set to release on May 26, 2026, after previously targeting fall 2025. A September 3, 2025 report said former Rockstar developer Obbe Vermeij considered the May date credible and dismissed further-delay talk as “clout-chasing.”
