Charizard must hold the matching stone to Mega Evolve, and you need a Key Stone.
Where to get Charizardite X and Charizardite Y
Visit the Stone Emporium on Vernal Avenue to pick up both stones. The Pokémon UK notice names this shop and location, while the game’s general adventure guide identifies the Stone Emporium as a place to obtain Mega Stones: Pokémon UK’s Charizard notice and the official adventure guide.
The official sources reviewed do not state a price or establish a Charizardite-specific mission or unlock requirement, so there is no verified price or extra step to report here.

How to Mega Evolve Charizard
- Obtain Charizardite X or Charizardite Y from the Stone Emporium on Vernal Avenue.
- Have Charizard hold the stone for the form you want.
- Use Mega Evolution in battle. The trainer’s Key Stone resonates with the Mega Stone held by the Pokémon, as explained on the official Mega Evolution page.
Is the Alpha Charizard Mystery Gift needed?
No. The Alpha Charizard was a separate, limited-time Mystery Gift, not a stated requirement for getting or using either Charizardite. Pokémon’s announcement set its claim period at December 9, 2025, through January 19, 2026; that window has passed. The notice also listed internet access, a Nintendo Account linked to the user profile, and about one hour of play before Mystery Gift access. See the official Alpha Charizard announcement.
