The season was announced to begin January 10, 2025, at 1 a.m. PST. Here is what the trailer’s story premise and the accompanying Season 1 announcement revealed.
What is Eternal Night Falls about?
The trailer’s premise begins with the fallout from the Timestream Entanglement: Doctor Strange is trapped in the Entangled Astral Plane, and pages of the Darkhold are scattered. With Strange absent, Dracula and Doctor Doom disrupt the moon’s orbit, plunging New York into eternal night and unleashing vampiric creatures. The season announcement adds that Dracula uses the dark power of Chronovium to stop the moon.
The Fantastic Four join other Marvel heroes to confront the supernatural darkness with science. NetEase described the stakes this way: “With New York City at the brink of supernatural collapse, the heroes turn to science for a solution.” Scarlet Witch eventually rescues Doctor Strange, according to the publisher’s season announcement.
What did the trailer announce for Season 1?
The Fantastic Four’s arrival
The season introduced four playable characters on a two-part rollout. Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic were announced for the first half; Human Torch and The Thing were scheduled for the second half. The announcement establishes this as a planned release order, rather than a claim about their present availability.

New York maps and Doom Match
Season 1’s Empire of Eternal Night setting included three announced maps: Sanctum Sanctorum and Midtown in the first half, followed by Central Park in the second. The publisher also announced Doom Match, a free-for-all-style mode for 8 to 12 players drawn from different hostile factions on one map. By default, the top half of the players counted as the winning side.
Season events and Battle Pass
The announcement also listed seasonal events and a Luxury Battle Pass with 10 costumes. At the time, it was priced at 990 Lattice and offered 600 Lattice plus 600 Units for completion. These figures describe the historical Season 1 announcement, not current prices or rules.

When did Marvel Rivals Season 1 start?
The official trailer description and NetEase announcement gave the start as January 10, 2025, at 1 a.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST). The trailer itself was published January 6, 2025. NetEase described Season 1 as lasting three months and divided its content rollout into two halves.
Which platforms were listed at the time?
In its January 7, 2025 announcement, NetEase listed Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, the Epic Games Store, and the official Marvel Rivals website. This is the publisher’s historical platform list for that announcement, not confirmation of current availability.

The official Marvel Rivals channel published “Season 1: Eternal Night Falls Official Trailer | Marvel Rivals” on January 6, 2025. NetEase’s Season 1 announcement, dated January 7, links to the trailer and details the planned content. The January 7 Dev Vision Vol. 3 page features Creative Director Guangguang and Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong discussing first-half updates, including Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, maps and modes, Celestial rank, and the Battle Pass.
