It also changed match pacing, economy, heroes, and items. These are the changes recorded in that dated update; they should not be treated as Deadlock’s current rules without checking later patches.
What was added in the September 26 update?
Mirage joined the hero roster
The update added Mirage as a playable hero. It also enabled bots to choose Mirage, Lady Geist, Shiv, and Warden.
Quickcast became configurable
Players could enable quickcast globally for abilities and/or items, or customize the setting for individual abilities. The setting also supported grenade-style abilities. The patch changed hero-specific keybind labels to display ability names instead of generic “ability 1–4” labels, and added the ability to bind a zipline hotkey separately from jump/space.
Other additions
The update introduced Custom Match mode and more private-lobby options, including server selection, public visibility, replay and post-game support, and lane selection. It also added in-game and post-game cheat reporting, enemy-player mute and report options in the in-game menu, and a spectator Fog of War toggle. South Africa servers and Italian localization were added, alongside rendering, shadow, and map-lighting improvements.

How did the initial anti-cheat response work?
When the system detected a player, their opponents could choose to end the match immediately and ban that player, or turn them into a frog for the remainder of the match and ban them afterward. Valve said that matches ended this way would not count for the other players.
Valve described the detection as deliberately cautious while it worked on a more extensive second version: “The system is set to conservative detection levels as we work on a v2 anti-cheat system that is more extensive.” The post also said Valve planned to enable banning “in a couple of days after the update is out.” That was a statement about the 2024 rollout plan, not confirmation of present-day anti-cheat behavior. What changed on the map?
The patch altered approach routes and connections rather than publishing measured changes to travel times or match outcomes. It moved the middle outer lanes farther from the inner lanes and revised several passages:
- A connection was added from the canal near the urn platforms, through the Radio Station and Apartment buildings.
- Interior corridors in Fish Market/Nursery were reworked so exits reached the buildings sooner, and an interior partition was added between Fish Market/Nursery and the Shops.
- The rope to the Fish Market/Nursery rooftop moved to the rear of the building. The upper interior hallway connecting that rope to the rooftops was removed.
- A truck moved from in front of the cosmic-veil archway to the back of Fish Market/Nursery.
- The outer-lane path, including ziplines and trooper nodes, between Walker and Guardian was redesigned on Amber Yellow and Sapphire Purple.
- An interior passage to the outer lanes was added beside the Subway Entrance.
How did the update change economy and match pacing?
The general gameplay changes adjusted early rewards, lane assignments, objectives, and combat timing. The figures below describe the September 26, 2024 patch, not necessarily the live game today.

- Each player’s first kill gained a 150-soul first-blood bounty.
- Lane setup was fixed at 1-2-2-1.
- Zipline Boost started on cooldown again.
- Guardians’ damage reduction for troopers fell from 35% to 28%, and trooper share radii were reduced.
- A Soul Generator in the respawn area began spawning 10-soul orbs at three minutes.
- Fire-rate slows gained diminishing stacking.
- The Rejuvenator’s bonus creep health increased from 50% to 70%; its bonus also persisted for dead players into their next life.
- Midgame respawn times increased, reaching 50 seconds at 20 minutes instead of 40 seconds.
- Teleporter delay fell from five seconds to four, while Guardians dealt 10% more damage to players.
- Killing Sinner’s Sacrifice added a permanent golden statue bonus.
Which hero and item balance changes stood out?
The update included extensive weapon, vitality, spirit-item, and hero balance changes. These examples show the scope of the patch without replacing the full change log in Valve’s post.
Weapon items
- Monster Rounds’ bullet resistance against NPCs decreased from 35% to 30%.
- High-Velocity Mag’s bullet velocity bonus decreased from 30% to 25%.
- Restorative Shot’s cooldown fell from 6.2 seconds to 5.5 seconds.
- Mystic Shot’s spirit scaling increased from 0.6 to 0.8.
- Headhunter began requiring Headshot Booster, lost its 50% bullet-velocity bonus, and gained 5% fire rate.
Vitality and spirit items
- Bullet Armor’s bullet resistance increased from 20% to 25%; Improved Bullet Armor’s increased from 45% to 50%.
- Fortitude’s bonus health increased from 275 to 300.
- Unstoppable could no longer be cast during channels.
- Mystic Reach’s ability-range bonus increased from 16% to 18%, and its resistance type changed from spirit to bullet.
- Decay’s cooldown increased from 32 seconds to 45 seconds.
- Echo Shard gained a 0.3-second cast delay.
Heroes
- Bebop’s hook range decreased from 30 meters to 25 meters.
- Haze’s Bullet Dance evasion decreased from 50% to 25%, and its fire-rate bonus fell from 25% to 15%.
- Seven’s Static Charge stun duration decreased from 1.1 seconds to 0.9 seconds.
