The “new type of character banner” teased in pre-release Genshin Impact Version 4.5 coverage became Chronicled Wish. HoYoverse announced it on March 1, 2024, and it ran from March 13 through April 2, 2024. It was an additional Event Wish with selected rerun characters and five-star weapons—not a banner that is still available today.

What was Chronicled Wish in Genshin Impact 4.5?

Chronicled Wish was a limited-time wish type introduced in Version 4.5. Unlike a Character Event Wish, which centers on featured characters, it combined eligible rerun characters and five-star weapons in one pool. Players first chose a target through Chronicled Path, then made wishes from the available pool. HoYoverse announced the feature alongside the Version 4.5 details on March 1, 2024; the update launched March 13. Gematsu’s Version 4.5 announcement coverage lists the initial lineup.

The initial Version 4.5 pool

The launch-period five-star character options were Albedo, Eula, Mona, Klee, Diluc, and Jean. The pool also included more than ten five-star weapons, among them Wolf’s Gravestone and Hunter’s Path. Chronicled Wish was an extra option alongside the ordinary character banners: Chiori and Arataki Itto in Phase I, followed by Neuvillette and Kaedehara Kazuha in Phase II.

How did Chronicled Path and the guarantee work?

Before wishing, a player selected one eligible five-star character or weapon as the Chronicled Path target. Choosing a character meant five-star results were characters; choosing a weapon meant they were weapons. The choice did not make every five-star result the selected item: a five-star had a 50% chance to be the target.

  1. Choose a target. Pick an eligible character or weapon listed for that Chronicled Wish period.
  2. Wish toward a five-star. A five-star item was guaranteed within 90 wishes.
  3. Resolve the result. If the five-star was not the target, the player received one Fate Point. The next five-star was then guaranteed to be the designated item.

A four-star-or-better result was guaranteed at least once every 10 attempts. These are the published Chronicled Wish rules, not estimates of how many wishes any particular player would need. The rules are detailed in the Chronicled Wish Rules & FAQ.

Did Chronicled Wish pity or Fate Points carry over?

The guarantee count carried over to a later Chronicled Wish period, but it was tracked separately from guarantee counts for other Wish types. HoYoverse’s rules state: “The wish guarantee count for ‘Chronicled Wish’ is independent of the guarantee counts for other types of Wishes.”

Fate Points worked differently: they did not carry over. Any Fate Point reset when that Chronicled Wish period ended. In practical terms, a player could retain Chronicled Wish pity for a future period, but could not save a Fate Point from one period to help guarantee a target in another.

Who could appear, and how often was the banner supposed to run?

For event-exclusive five-star characters, the eligibility criteria said a character must have appeared on Character Event Wish or Character Event Wish-2 at least three times and must not have appeared in recent Event Wishes. The lineup was not fixed: the item list could change between Chronicled Wish periods.

HoYoverse described Chronicled Wish as appearing “from time to time.” That wording did not promise one in every version or establish a regular schedule. The Version 4.5 period is historical; the original pool and dates should not be mistaken for a current offer.

How was it different from a Character Event Wish?

Feature Chronicled Wish Character Event Wish
Pool A period-specific selection of eligible rerun characters and five-star weapons Character-focused event pool
Targeting Choose an eligible character or weapon; that choice limits five-star results to the selected category Uses its own character-event rules and pool
Guarantee tracking Its guarantee count is independent of other Wish types and carries to a later Chronicled Wish; Fate Points expire at the period’s end Tracked separately from Chronicled Wish
Schedule Announced to appear “from time to time”; no fixed per-version cadence was promised Scheduled as part of character event phases

The rules establish different pool and tracking mechanics, but do not establish that one banner type is universally better value. Whether Chronicled Wish suited a player depended on the specific eligible targets, their existing guarantee progress, and whether they could use the full period’s rules before it ended.
