How to Redeem a Code on the Xbox App

On a Windows PC, open the Xbox app, make sure it is signed in to the Microsoft account that should receive the code, and use Redeem if that option appears. If you cannot find or complete redemption in the app, redeem the code at microsoft.com/redeem. Xbox says code redemption is not available in the Xbox mobile app.

Redeem a code on the Xbox app for Windows

1. Open the Xbox app on your Windows PC and check which Microsoft account is signed in. The code is applied to the account used during redemption, so confirm it is the right one before proceeding.

2. If the app shows a Redeem option, select it, enter or paste the code, and follow the confirmation prompts. The current exact menu path may vary; use the option shown in your app rather than relying on an assumed profile or settings path.

3. If you cannot find the option or the app does not complete redemption, use the browser method below.

What if you are using the Xbox mobile app?

Xbox says you cannot redeem a code in the Xbox mobile app at this time. Switch to a browser and use microsoft.com/redeem instead. This limitation applies to the mobile app; it does not establish that code redemption is unavailable in the Windows PC app.

Fix common redemption problems

The code went to the wrong account

Microsoft account redemption applies to the account used in the process. Before trying again, check the signed-in account or Gamertag. If the wrong account received the code, do not assume it can be transferred; the available support information does not establish that transfer is possible.

“Unable to complete this transaction” appears

Microsoft recommends updating the Microsoft Store or Xbox app, then trying redemption again. If the error persists, use the browser redemption page.

The code is rejected because of region or eligibility

Xbox gift cards can have geography limitations and eligibility restrictions on purchases. Check that the code is valid for the account’s region and intended use rather than guessing at or changing the code format.
