To cast a spell in Oblivion Remastered, select it in the Magic menu, then use the cast control: the default keyboard keys are F3 to open Magic and C to cast; on Xbox, use Left on the D-pad and RB. To get additional ready-made spells, visit spell merchants, including Mages Guild vendors.
How to equip and cast a spell
In this game, equipping a spell means selecting it from the Magic menu. Once selected, it is your active spell until you choose another. Open the menu, highlight the spell you want, and use the cast input.

These are Bethesda’s default bindings; if you have remapped controls, use the bindings shown in your settings instead. PlayStation and Switch 2 inputs are not verified here, so do not assume they match Xbox.
Use shortcuts for spells you cast often
You can put spells in HUD Shortcuts or the Favorites Radial for quicker selection. Bethesda notes that HUD Shortcuts do not pause gameplay, so assign or select them somewhere safe rather than while enemies are attacking.

How to learn new spells
For ready-made spells, visit spell merchants. Mages Guild vendors are a specifically identified route; magic shops and chapels are also reported as places to look. These are useful starting points, not a guarantee that every vendor carries every spell.
Buying or learning a reusable spell is different from using a scroll. The original Oblivion PC manual describes scrolls as items cast like spells, but that does not establish the behavior of every spell tome in the Remastered edition. Bethesda confirms that Spell Tomes DLC is included in the Remaster, but the exact interaction is not established here. Check the in-game description and behavior of a particular tome rather than assuming it teaches a reusable spell.

Spellmaking is for creating custom spells
Spellmaking is distinct from acquiring a ready-made spell. The original PC manual describes a system in which a character combines effects they already know at an Altar of Spellmaking in the Praxographical Center of the Arcane University in the Imperial City. The manual says access requires the appropriate Mages Guild rank, and lets the player set an effect’s magnitude and duration, with area as an option.
This is legacy-system guidance from the original PC manual, not confirmation that every unlock condition is unchanged in Oblivion Remastered. The manual also warns that a custom spell may be unusable if its Magicka cost exceeds what the character can pay or its skill requirement exceeds the character’s ability.
