Why a normal room-by-room search can miss secret rooms
A woodland mansion is a large building found in dark forest biomes, but its interior is not one continuous set of rooms. Some secret rooms have no entrance at all; other rooms may simply have sealed entrances. Room layouts vary, and some room types may not generate in a particular mansion. A walkthrough through accessible doorways therefore cannot confirm that you have found every room. The Minecraft Wiki’s woodland mansion reference describes eight possible secret-room types, not eight rooms that appear in every mansion. Search by floor
First floor: look for gaps
Check the spaces between ordinary rooms and the mansion’s outer walls. Compare the accessible room layout with the building’s footprint; an unexplained gap or a wall that does not line up with the interior may conceal a room. This is especially useful on the first floor, which has no windows to help reveal hidden interiors from outside.
Second and third floors: scan the windows
Walk around the exterior and look through the windows on the upper floors. Some secret rooms are visible from outside despite having no interior doorway. A window view can expose a room’s structure or contents before you decide where to break in.

Third floor: inspect from above
Removing roof blocks gives you a top-down view of the third-floor layout and can reveal areas that are difficult to spot from inside. This method alters the mansion, so use it only if you are comfortable breaking the structure. The reference describes roof removal as a way to inspect this floor; it does not specify a preservation-friendly alternative.
Investigate suspicious walls selectively
Look for solid walls where you might expect a window, or for odd spaces between rooms. If a gap or blank area seems suspicious, break through a small section and inspect behind it. Some rooms have sealed entrances, while secret rooms may have none, so finding the space is more important than finding a doorway. All eight possible secret-room types
Use these features to identify a room once you have exposed it. The Minecraft Wiki calls the X room the most common and the lava room the rarest, but gives no numerical odds; treat those as qualitative descriptions, not guarantees or measured probabilities. The detailed reference does not establish that every room type appears across all Minecraft editions or versions.

Loot and hazards to account for
Diamond blocks in the obsidian and lava rooms
The obsidian room’s diamond block is enclosed by obsidian. The tutorial specifies a diamond or netherite pickaxe for mining it. The lava room also hides a diamond block, but its glass enclosure and lava create a fire risk; the tutorial describes using water to assist with removing lava. Neither room is a reason to assume a particular tool will make the search itself easier: these are in-game tools, and the hazards depend on how you approach the blocks. Traps, spawners, and chests
In the fake End portal room, the trapped chest, TNT, and infested cobblestone make careless interaction risky; triggering the infested blocks can release silverfish. The spider room contains a spawner amid cobwebs. Chests are also features of the X, clean chest, and attic rooms. The birch pillar room is distinguished by its structure rather than a special loot reward listed in the reference.

The practical goal is to inspect all suspicious spaces in the mansion you have, not to expect a fixed checklist of eight rooms in every building. The room reference does not specify a Minecraft version for every generation detail or establish Java-and-Bedrock parity. If a listed room is absent after a careful search, that is consistent with the documented variation in generated layouts; the available reference does not support treating its absence as proof of a missed entrance.
