How to install S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 on PC
Use the client for the store where you own the game. GSC Game World’s platform installation guide covers Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store on PC.

- Open the relevant client and sign in to the account that owns the game.
- Open your library and find S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.
- Select the game and choose Install.
- If prompted, choose an installation folder or location, then let the client download and install the game.
Microsoft Store PC owners
Microsoft Store PC owners can download the game through the Xbox app or their Xbox game library. GSC’s March 30, 2026 Xbox Play Anywhere FAQ says eligible Xbox and Microsoft Store PC owners receive both versions under a unified entitlement. This applies to eligible Microsoft Store/Xbox ownership; it does not mean a Steam, GOG, or Epic purchase transfers to Xbox Play Anywhere.
How to install S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 on Xbox
- Sign in to the Xbox account that owns or can access the game.
- Find the game in your Xbox library.
- Select it and choose Install.

If the Xbox installation is stuck
In Xbox troubleshooting guidance dated November 15, 2024, GSC advised having at least 150 GB of free storage when an installation is stuck or storage is insufficient. Treat that as dated troubleshooting advice, not a verified current download-size figure. Check the available space on the device before trying again. What “preload” means now
Preloading means downloading a game before its release so it is ready to play at launch. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl launched on November 20, 2024, according to GSC’s official fact sheet, so that launch window has passed. Use your store or Xbox library to install the released game; the official installation instructions do not establish a platform-by-platform history of which stores offered launch preload or when it opened.
