The Vanishing is a free Far Cry 6 mission and Stranger Things crossover, released on March 24, 2022. It sends Dani into a Yara setting inspired by the Upside-Down to investigate disappearances and search for Chorizo. Ubisoft’s announcements confirm its release and a later 2023 promotion, but do not establish whether it is still accessible in October 2026.
What is The Vanishing?
The Vanishing is a crossover mission within Far Cry 6, not a separate Stranger Things game. Ubisoft described it as a stealth-horror-survival experience and said it brought that style of gameplay to Far Cry for the first time. Dani explores a distorted version of Yara inspired by the Upside-Down, where Yarans are disappearing and Chorizo is in danger. (Ubisoft, March 22, 2022)

What happens in the mission?
The objective is to find Chorizo and discover what happened to the abducted Yarans. Ubisoft named a hidden bunker and an abandoned laboratory among the locations players could explore. The crossover also introduced flamethrower and shotgun skins. These details describe the mission Ubisoft announced; they do not indicate whether it can currently be launched.
When did The Vanishing come out?
Ubisoft announced the mission on March 22, 2022, as free content planned for March 24, then confirmed it was live on March 24. Its launch-weekend announcement listed Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC through the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Store for that promotion. Ubisoft also included the mission among the crossover content during a February 2023 free weekend. Those announcements establish historical release and inclusion, not present-day access on any platform. (Ubisoft, March 24, 2022; Ubisoft, February 14, 2023)
#1 Best Overall
- Play as Dani Rojas, a local Yaran, as you fight alongside a modern-day guerrilla revolution to liberate Yara
- Fight against Castillo’s regime in the most expansive Far Cry to date, through jungles, beaches, and Esperanza, the capital city of Yara
- Employ an arsenal of resolver weapons, backpacks, and vehicles to take down Castillo’s ruthless regime.
Is The Vanishing still available?
That is not established by the official announcements cited here. They confirm that the mission launched in 2022 and appeared in a 2023 promotion, but do not say whether it remains downloadable or playable in October 2026, or whether access differs by platform. Check current Ubisoft support information or your platform’s store before buying or reinstalling Far Cry 6 specifically for this mission; owning the base game is not proof that the crossover is still accessible.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you play The Vanishing in co-op?
Ubisoft said the game and the free-weekend content could be played in co-op during the 2022 promotion. That announcement does not specify current co-op conditions for The Vanishing itself, so it is not enough to confirm how the mission works in co-op today.
