What’s in the Starfield update?
Bethesda’s June 9, 2024 announcement described the update as available to download on Xbox Series X|S and PC at that time. Its main additions were the Creations menu, new Trackers Alliance bounty content and systems, melee weapon improvements, and ammunition crafting. The announcement did not establish that the release was unannounced; “surprise” is not Bethesda’s characterization. Bethesda Game Studios’ June Update Highlights
Creations in the game
Players can access Creations from Starfield’s in-game menu. Bethesda said the catalog could include content ranging from small changes to larger adventures, including missions, gear, skins, and weapons; Bethesda Game Studios creations were available there too. The Creation Kit is a separate Steam download for creators, not the in-game player menu.
Bounty hunting, weapons and ammunition
The update added the Bounty Scanner System, which lets players scan citizens and find people with bounties. A bounty can be handled peacefully or with force. Bethesda also mentioned an Elite Trackers Alliance mission board. Melee weapons gained improved tiers and can be upgraded at crafting benches; ammunition can be researched at a Research Station and crafted at an Industrial Workbench.

What new missions were added to Starfield?
The Starjacker: the free first mission
The Starjacker is the first Trackers Alliance mission and was included in the June update. Bethesda described it as a bounty-hunting trial that begins when players encounter a Tracker in a Settled Systems settlement and leads to Akila City.
The Vulture: a separate paid mission
The Vulture is the second mission in the Trackers Alliance series. Bethesda said it was available for purchase in the Creations menu; it was not part of the free Starjacker mission or the update’s included content. The announcement also said Premium Edition owners would receive 1,000 Creation Credits at launch to redeem on Creations. That was a dated launch offer, not confirmation of a current promotion. What changed with Starfield melee weapons?
The update added improved melee weapon tiers, including higher-damage weapons, and the ability to improve melee weapons further at crafting benches. Bethesda did not publish damage figures or measured balance results in its announcement, so the change should not be read as a quantified performance boost.

At announcement on June 9, 2024, Bethesda said the June update was available on Xbox Series X|S and PC. A later platform update changes the current platform picture: Bethesda announced on March 17, 2026, that Starfield would launch on PlayStation 5 on April 7, 2026, with every major update released to date included in the PS5 version.
