To beat the boss, prioritize Toughness damage: breaking it grants your team a shield, and in the final phase you need to break it before its powerful DEF-ignoring attack.
The story encounter and the repeatable Echo of War are different: you meet the story boss as part of progression, while the Echo of War is the replayable challenge unlocked after the relevant story mission.
How do I unlock the Great Septimus boss?
If you mean the repeatable fight, look for Echo of War: Salutations of Ashen Dreams. Guides published in May 2024 document this unlock route:
- Finish the Version 2.2 Trailblaze Mission “The Fool Always Rings Twice.”
- Open the Penacony map and travel to the northern end of Penacony Grand Theater.
- Go to the Echo of War location and activate it as a teleport point if it is not already unlocked.
The story version of the boss is encountered during Trailblaze progression; it is not the same as choosing the repeatable Echo of War. The unlock details above come from 2024 guides, not a current official patch note, so live-game access details or reward schedules may have changed.

How do I beat Harmonious Choir: The Great Septimus?
Build around breaking Toughness rather than simply focusing on raw damage. The boss is listed as weak to Fire, Lightning, and Imaginary, making those damage types useful when they fit your roster. For the first two phases, breaking the boss and its accompanying Echoes is especially valuable: the Echoes share HP with the boss, and breaking their Toughness can stop them from attacking without defeating them separately. Breaking the boss’s Toughness grants your party a shield, helping you survive its stronger attacks. These mechanics are described in a May 2024 strategy guide.
Phases one and two: break the Echoes and the boss
- Use attacks that can hit multiple targets when that helps reduce Toughness on the boss and its Echoes together.
- When an Echo is close to acting, consider targeting it to suppress its attack by breaking its Toughness.
- Keep applying Weakness Break to the boss; the resulting party shield is a key defensive benefit.
Final phase: treat the heavy attack as a deadline
In the final phase, the boss form is described as vulnerable to all damage types, so use your strongest available attacks rather than saving only for Fire, Lightning, or Imaginary weaknesses. The crucial defense is to break its Toughness before its powerful DEF-ignoring attack lands. One May 2024 guide describes having seven turns to do this; treat that as the guide’s account of the mechanic, not a guarantee that every encounter or current version will behave identically. What team should I use against Harmonious Choir?
There is no mandatory lineup established for this fight. Choose characters according to the jobs your team needs to perform:
- Weakness coverage: Fire, Lightning, and Imaginary damage dealers can exploit the listed weaknesses in the first two phases.
- Toughness reduction and Break support: Favor characters who can reliably chip away at enemy Toughness. Harmony Trailblazer and other Break-focused options appear in a June 2024 community guide, but that is a historical suggestion, not a current best-in-slot ranking: HoYoLAB team advice.
- Multi-target attacks: Area attacks can help apply pressure across the boss and its accompanying Echoes.
- Sustain: Bring dependable healing or shielding so the team can withstand damage while setting up Breaks.
Adapt the lineup to the characters you have and their investment. The cited guides do not establish a guaranteed-clear team or controlled comparison of character performance.
