Bethesda’s August 18, 2026 Fallout 4 update fixes three specific crashes: opening the Virtual Keyboard on Steam Deck, a crash caused by a streaming-audio error, and a Microsoft Store crash when entering Creations after internet connectivity resumes. It also raises the BA2 archive limit from 256 to 1,024. The notes do not say that every Anniversary Edition problem is fixed.
What the August 18 update changes
Bethesda’s official patch notes label the entry “Fallout 4 Update – August 18th, 2026.” They list platform-specific crash fixes, mod-related changes, and interface updates.

Crash fixes
- Steam Deck: fixes a crash that could occur when opening the Virtual Keyboard.
- Streaming audio: fixes a “top crash” attributed to a streaming-audio error. Bethesda does not identify a specific platform for this item in the listed description.
- Microsoft Store: fixes a crash that could happen when entering Creations after internet connectivity resumed.
Mods, Creation Kit, and interface
For players using mods, the update increases the BA2 archive limit from 256 to 1,024 to better accommodate larger collections. That is a limit change, not a guarantee that every mod or load order will work together.
Bethesda also lists more consistent ordering for Creations category results, localization fixes for the UI and platform terminology, and error codes in Bethesda.Net error messages to help with customer-service requests. Creation Kit changes are aimed at creators: the notes include PlayStation archive support for listed file types and upload support for Xbox Creations up to 2 GB.

How this relates to earlier Anniversary Edition fixes
The August update is one entry in a sequence of fixes, not a blanket resolution of all issues associated with the Anniversary Edition. Bethesda’s patch page lists different dates, platforms, and problem categories:
| Date | Platform or scope | Issues addressed |
|---|---|---|
| November 17, 2025 | Creation-menu stability, with particular attention to PS4 and Xbox One | Addressed an issue preventing Creations that relied on DLC from being enabled and improved Creation-menu stability. Bethesda also noted that DLC could become uninstalled on PlayStation; its support step for affected players was to enable Creations after DLC had completely installed. |
| February 10, 2026 | PlayStation 4 Anniversary Edition update | Addressed missing DLC. The notes also list rare crashes after store purchases, while scrolling or viewing Creations, and when starting a new game with Creations enabled; improved error handling for rapid menu actions; and a fix for the game hanging on quit. |
| May 27, 2026 | Creations storage expansion and related fixes | Expanded storage limits, with platform-specific details below. The announcement also lists fixes involving sign-in loading, a PlayStation crash during a Creation download followed by backing out, and other download and content problems. |
| August 18, 2026 | Steam Deck, Microsoft Store, and a streaming-audio crash entry | Fixed the three crashes described above, raised the BA2 archive limit, and made additional interface and creator-facing changes. |
The February PS4 fixes and the August Steam Deck and Microsoft Store fixes are distinct entries. If your issue is not among the changes listed for your platform and date, the patch notes do not establish that it has been resolved.
Creations storage: what the May update said by platform
Bethesda’s May 27, 2026 storage announcement gave different figures by platform. These are Bethesda’s published limits, not independent measurements.
| Platform | Creation storage described by Bethesda | Installation note |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox One | Up to 15 GB | Installed Creations were cleared on first launch after the update and needed to be re-downloaded or restored using Bethesda’s described options. |
| Xbox Series X|S | Growable up to 100 GB | Installed Creations were cleared on first launch after the update and needed to be re-downloaded or restored using Bethesda’s described options. |
| PS5 | Approximately 15 GB | Existing installations were preserved. |
| PS4 | Not stated as a comparable storage figure in the announcement | Bethesda described storage and partition behavior caveats. |
The announcement also described an infinite Creations sign-in loading screen associated with an account already linked to another platform account, as well as download and content problems. On Xbox, Bethesda said users could re-download Creations, restore a load order, or use a save made since the Anniversary Edition launch date as part of the options it described. Follow the platform-specific instructions in the official storage announcement if your installation was affected.

What to check if you still have a problem
- Match the symptom to the platform: the August crash entries specifically name Steam Deck and Microsoft Store for two of the fixes; the streaming-audio entry is described as a top crash without a platform named.
- For missing DLC or Creations that depend on DLC: consult the dated PS4 and November 2025 notes rather than assuming the August update covers them. For the PlayStation DLC issue described in the November entry, Bethesda says to enable Creations after DLC has completely installed.
- For storage or cleared Creations: use Bethesda’s May 27 platform-specific storage guidance; the August BA2 limit change is not a fix for a cleared Creation library.
- For a current error code: note the code and use Bethesda’s current patch notes and support guidance. The August notes say error codes were added to Bethesda.Net error messages for customer-service use.
Bethesda’s notes document listed changes, not independent post-update testing or universal stability across mod configurations. They do not establish that all Anniversary Edition problems—or all conflicts between mods—are resolved.
