For a reliable all-around Warrior starting point, choose the Grey Warden Champion. It pairs sword-and-shield defense with fire damage and crowd control. EA’s launch example uses Whirlwind, Grappling Spear, Deadly Ground, and Warden’s Fire; a separate 2024 guide suggests a different Champion loadout. Neither source establishes a best-in-slot build for the live 2026 balance, so treat Champion as a flexible template rather than a universal damage ranking.
Which Warrior specialization should you choose?
Pick the specialization that matches how you want to fight. Champion is the most straightforward general-purpose starting point in the sources available: EA featured it as its Warrior example, and it supports a defensive, shield-led style with fire and area-control tools. Reaper suits players who want shield throws, ranged pressure, necrotic damage, and life drain. Slayer is for aggressive two-handed attacks, physical damage, and stagger.

These are playstyle tradeoffs, not official class rankings. RPG Site’s detailed comparison was published in November 2024; it is not evidence of which specialization deals the most damage after later balance changes.
A practical Grey Warden Champion build
EA’s launch example
EA’s October 31, 2024 launch guide lists Whirlwind, Grappling Spear, Deadly Ground, and Warden’s Fire for its sample Champion. Use this as the simplest starting template: Whirlwind for area attacks, Grappling Spear and Deadly Ground for control, and Warden’s Fire as the ultimate. The list is EA’s example, not a claim that these are the strongest abilities in the current patch.

RPG Site’s alternative loadout
RPG Site’s expanded Champion suggestion instead uses Titan Stomp, Blight Bane or Groundbreaker, Grappling Spear, and Warden’s Fire. It highlights Counterblow and Focused Retaliation for Perfect Defense follow-ups, Titan Stomp for area control and Overwhelm, Return to Sender for reflecting projectiles, and Grappling Spear for control, fire damage, and Overwhelm. It also names Fade-Touched Bulwark, Spellbound Longsword, and Warden’s Signet as equipment examples. These are guide recommendations, not required items or guaranteed drops.
The two loadouts differ: EA’s example includes Whirlwind and Deadly Ground, while RPG Site’s uses Titan Stomp and Blight Bane or Groundbreaker. Choose between them based on the abilities and equipment you actually have, rather than treating the lists as one fixed build.

When Reaper or Slayer is a better fit
Choose Reaper for shield throws and sustain
Reaper is a reasonable alternative if you prefer ranged shield attacks, life drain, and necrotic damage. RPG Site describes it as strong against Undead and Antaam but less effective against Necrotic-resistant Darkspawn. That is a matchup consideration from its 2024 guide, not a complete resistance chart. GameSpot’s October 2024 Warrior guide also favors Reaper, naming Shield Toss-related passives, Titan Stomp, Groundbreaker, Whirlwind, and the Spirit Storm ultimate, which it describes as a necrotic tornado that pulls enemies inward. That is GameSpot’s editorial recommendation, not a consensus or a current-patch ranking.
Choose Slayer for two-handed aggression
Slayer emphasizes physical damage, heavy attacks, stagger, and takedowns. RPG Site suggests abilities such as Heroic Leap or Driving Kick alongside that aggressive approach. Its warning is practical: the specialization can feel more fragile at higher difficulty, and two-handed weapons do not provide an easy, reliable block. Choose it if that tradeoff suits your preferred pace, not simply because high damage sounds attractive.

EA notes that enemies have different weaknesses and resistances, so a single ability setup is not ideal for every encounter. Consider the damage type you are using and whether the current enemies make your preferred control or defense tools effective. For example, RPG Site’s Champion-versus-Reaper matchup notes favor Champion’s fire focus against Darkspawn and caution that those enemies resist Reaper’s necrotic damage.
- Weapon style: Champion uses sword and shield; Slayer leans into two-handed attacks; Reaper makes shield throws central.
- Defense and sustain: Champion rewards defensive play and parries, while Reaper’s life drain supports sustain. Slayer trades some safety for aggression.
- Control and stagger: Choose abilities that help with the kind of control you want—area management, stagger, or opportunities to follow up on defenses.
- Gear: Treat named weapons and accessories as examples. A recommendation that depends on a particular item is less useful until you find it.
Respec and progression
You do not need to lock in a build permanently. In its October 31, 2024 launch article, the Dragon Age Team says, “You can swap your abilities, and those of your companions, at any time outside of combat.” The same article says you can respec individual skill nodes or the entire skill tree outside combat.

RPG Site’s 2024 guide reports that specializations become accessible at Level 20, one branch can be selected at Level 30, a second branch unlocks at Level 40, and the level cap is 50. These are guide-reported mechanics; check the current game version if you are planning a precise level-by-level route.
