To change a Lenovo Legion keyboard’s lighting, press Fn + Space to cycle through the available factory effects on supported models. For more controls, open Legion Space if your model supports lighting customization. The keyboard’s hardware determines which colors are possible: an RGB model may offer several effects, while a blue-only or white-only keyboard can adjust brightness but is not documented as switching to other colors.
Check which keyboard your Legion has
Legion laptops are sold with different keyboard backlights, sometimes even within the same model family. Check the specifications or user guide for your exact model and configuration before looking for an RGB setting. Lenovo’s Legion 5 15ACH6A PSREF, dated March 31, 2022, lists configurations with blue backlight, white backlight, and 4-zone RGB backlight; that example does not establish which option is fitted to every Legion 5 or other Legion laptop. Lenovo PSREF and the Lenovo Support guidance point users to their model’s documentation, including its user guide or Hardware Maintenance Manual, to confirm backlight availability.
- Multi-color or RGB keyboard: You may be able to cycle factory effects and, on supported models, customize them in Lenovo software. Available controls depend on the keyboard’s zones and the model.
- Single-color keyboard: The documented controls adjust brightness. They do not establish a way to select a different color.
Cycle the keyboard’s built-in lighting effects
- Find the keyboard-backlight key symbol on your Legion’s keyboard and check its user guide to confirm the shortcut.
- Press Fn + Space. On the cited Legion 9i (18-inch, generation 10) and Legion 7 (generation 7) guides, this cycles factory lighting profiles. The shortcut is not confirmed here for every Legion model.
- Press the shortcut again to move through the available profiles. The effects you see depend on the keyboard hardware.
Lenovo’s Legion 9i (18-inch, generation 10) User Guide describes the control this way: “Use keyboard shortcut Fn + [keyboard backlight icon] to cycle through factory pre-configured lighting effects (profiles).” The backlight icon appears as an image in the guide. Customize effects in Lenovo software
On supported current models, open Legion Space and look for keyboard lighting or profile controls. Lenovo’s Legion 9i guide describes customization such as changing an effect to match the current window’s color or respond to music. Those options are model-dependent, not a promise that every Legion Space installation offers the same controls.

Some older Legion documentation uses Lenovo Vantage for lighting customization instead. The available app and features vary by generation and model, and Lenovo notes that app features can change after updates. If you do not see lighting controls, check the documentation for your exact machine rather than assuming a setting is missing or installing a generic RGB utility.
Adjust brightness or turn the backlight off
Brightness controls are separate from color selection. Lenovo’s Legion 9i guide documents dedicated brightness shortcuts for multi-color models; repeated use of the dimming shortcut can turn the lighting off. Blue-only and white-only versions use the backlight shortcut to adjust brightness. Key symbols and shortcuts can differ, so verify them in your model’s guide.

If the color or effect will not change
- Confirm the fitted keyboard: Check your exact model and configuration in its Lenovo specifications or guide. A single-color backlight cannot be made RGB by changing software.
- Verify the shortcut: Check the key legend and your model’s guide rather than assuming Fn + Space applies to every Legion.
- Check Windows Dynamic Lighting: Lenovo says that if Windows Dynamic Lighting is enabled and set as the first priority, Legion preconfigured effects are deactivated. Change the priority if you want to use those Legion effects.
- Check Lenovo’s app: Make sure the relevant Legion Space or Lenovo Vantage app is available and current for your model. Controls may differ after app updates.
For final confirmation, use the documentation for your specific machine: a specification for one Legion configuration does not prove the backlight type or software controls on another.
