If the region command does not work
Try restoring automatic selection with citadel_region_override -1. The command is listed as automatic in the Steam guide and in a forum discussion, but the same community sources do not establish whether the override currently works or remains set after restarting the game.
A player who reported being placed in North America despite usually playing in South America asked about this in a September 2026 Deadlock forum thread. A respondent suggested matchmaking might choose a region with active players when local queues are long, and warned the override may have been patched. That is a community member’s explanation, not confirmed Valve matchmaking behavior.

Can you make the setting persist?
A Steam Community guide last updated September 12, 2024 describes an autoexec workaround: add -console -exec autoexec to Deadlock’s Steam launch options, create Autoexec.cfg in the game’s game/citadel/cfg folder, and put the chosen citadel_region_override command in the file. This is dated, user-authored guidance; whether it still works in the current build is unverified. See the guide’s full autoexec instructions before changing files or launch options.
Region names and server locations
The 2024 Steam guide associates the command values with North America Central (Chicago), Europe (Stockholm), Asia (Hong Kong), South America (Santiago), and Oceania (Sydney). Those locations are historical details from that guide, not a verified list of Deadlock’s current server footprint. The guide does not list a region for automatic selection.
