Then update the console software and reset the DualSense using Sony’s procedure. If the button sticks or still does not work, check PlayStation repair options before opening the controller.
Check whether the problem is limited to one game
- Test Triangle in the PS5 interface, then try it in another game if one is available.
- Check whether other face buttons work normally.
- If Triangle fails only in one game, review that game’s control settings before treating the controller as faulty.
This comparison helps distinguish a game-specific control issue from a controller problem. It is a practical diagnostic check, not a Triangle-specific test prescribed by Sony.
Update PS5 and DualSense software
If you can use the console, install any available PS5 system software update. Sony delivers DualSense device software updates through PS5 system software updates. You can check for a controller update at Settings > Accessories > Controller (General) > DualSense Wireless Controller Device Software. See PlayStation’s controller support instructions.
Reset and reconnect the controller
Sony recommends resetting the DualSense when troubleshooting controller problems. PlayStation Support says: “Use a pin or a similar tool (not included) to press and hold the reset button for at least 5 seconds.”

- Turn off the PS5.
- Disconnect the controller from its USB cable.
- Find the small reset hole on the back of the controller, next to the Sony logo.
- Use a pin or similar tool to press and hold the reset button for at least five seconds.
- Reconnect the controller to the PS5 with the official USB cable and press the PS button.
Follow Sony’s full DualSense troubleshooting instructions. A suitable pin may be enough; Sony notes that a reset tool is not included.
Check Triangle for sticking or damage
With the controller disconnected, look at Triangle and compare how it moves with the other face buttons. Note if it is stuck, sticky, unusually resistant, crunchy, cracked, or visibly worn. Dried sugary drink residue can make controller buttons stick, according to iFixit’s button troubleshooting guide.
Do not force the button or assume an external cleaning method will fix internal residue. Opening the controller is invasive; if you consider internal cleaning, use a reputable guide matched to your exact controller model and revision. Replacement parts can vary by revision, so verify compatibility rather than ordering a generic button.

Choose a repair route if the button still fails
If software updates and Sony’s reset procedure do not resolve the problem, use PlayStation’s controller support and repair options, including its button and stick issue route. Check local eligibility and terms before opening the controller, since disassembly may affect the options available to you.
