Shadow of the Erdtree launched on June 21, 2024, so it is now an already released expansion—not a preorder. Its preorder reward was the in-game Ring of Miquella gesture, and Bandai Namco documented a cooperative multiplayer way for players who missed the preorder to obtain it. The expansion requires the Elden Ring base game.
What was the preorder bonus?
The preorder bonus for Shadow of the Erdtree was the Ring of Miquella gesture. FromSoftware said the gesture was bundled with all editions during the preorder offer. FromSoftware’s announcement described the reward; the offer itself is historical, not a current preorder promotion.

Can you still get the Ring of Miquella gesture?
Bandai Namco Japan documented a way for players who purchased the DLC after the preorder period to obtain the gesture: play cooperative multiplayer with another player who has it. See Bandai Namco Japan’s notice for that method. This is the publisher’s documented route; it does not establish a current store listing, code, or guarantee that every player can obtain the gesture in every circumstance.
Do you need Elden Ring to play Shadow of the Erdtree?
Yes. Bandai Namco’s product page states: “Shadow Of The Erdtree requires ELDEN RING base game to play.” The official product page also lists a Shadow of the Erdtree Edition that bundles the base game with the expansion.

Which edition should you buy?
The practical choice depends on whether you already own the base game and whether you want the digital extras. Bandai Namco’s official page describes these contents; it does not establish current regional pricing, so compare the live prices shown for your store and region before choosing.

Release date and platforms
Bandai Namco lists the release date as June 21, 2024, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Its release-timings notice distinguishes regional PC launch times from local-midnight console availability, so the exact launch time depended on platform and region. See Bandai Namco’s release-timings notice.
Is there a guidebook for the expansion?
ELDEN RING: Books of Knowledge, Volume III: Shadow of the Erdtree is an optional physical companion. Bandai Namco’s official store describes it as including a complete progression guide and an advanced build guide. It is not required to play and was not a preorder bonus. Check the seller’s regional listing for current stock and availability. Bandai Namco official store listing.
