The first Dune: Awakening gameplay trailer premiered at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 20, 2024. Its five-minute look framed the game as a journey from stranded survivor to spice hunter, moving through survival, scavenging, combat, exploration, building, crafting and trade. The trailer’s early-2025 PC release window is now outdated: Funcom says the PC game launched in June 2025 and that the game became available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox by September 22, 2026.
What did the first Dune: Awakening gameplay trailer show?
Funcom described the Gamescom Opening Night Live trailer as “a 5-minute vision of a player’s journey from survivor to spice hunter.” Its accompanying announcement presented that journey in stages: endure and scavenge on Arrakis, build capability through combat and exploration, establish a foothold with building and crafting, and engage in trade and the struggle for spice. The game’s premise also includes aligning with House Atreides or House Harkonnen.

Those are the developer’s descriptions of the game’s systems and themes, not an independent assessment of how they work in play. The official trailer listing likewise calls the footage a glimpse of the journey from survivor to spice hunter. Funcom also listed an extended Gamescom presentation by Creative Director Joel Bylos, but the reveal announcement itself does not contain a named-person quotation.
Is the early-2025 release date still current?
No. The early-2025 PC window was announced alongside the August 2024 trailer and is historical. Funcom’s September 2026 update says Dune: Awakening launched on PC in June 2025 and was then available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox. The publisher describes the game as a single- and multiplayer open-world survival game with adventure and RPG gameplay, available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Funcom’s September 22, 2026 update also says the console release includes a full single-player mode, customizable gameplay settings and the conclusion to Book One’s story. A physical PS5 edition is available through retail and online channels; that confirmation does not establish current stock or a specific retailer listing.
Can you play solo, and is PvP required?
In a September 17, 2026 update, Funcom said the full game could be played solo and that PvP was optional. That gives players a choice about engaging with player-versus-player combat; it does not mean that every multiplayer feature or activity is solo-only.

The same update said cross-play was planned for after launch but did not give a release date. Players should check Funcom’s latest information before assuming that people on different platforms can play together.

The trailer remains a useful introduction to the game’s original pitch: survival on Arrakis that develops into crafting, exploration, trade and competition over spice. But its release timing and platform situation have moved on since the reveal. Funcom also reported that the game reached 189,000 concurrent Steam players during its PC launch period, attributing the figure to Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe in a 2026 update; it is a historical publisher-reported peak, not a current player count or an independently audited figure.
