In Diablo 4’s Season 13 tempering system, learn a Temper Manual, take eligible gear to a Blacksmith, choose an available recipe category, then select the specific affix you want. You can reroll within that category, but a reroll is not guaranteed to improve the value. The in-game Codex of Power is the place to check your learned recipes and the current manual roster. How do I add affixes with Tempering in Diablo 4?
- Learn a Temper Manual by using it from your inventory; the current guide describes right-clicking the drop.
- Visit a Blacksmith and open the Tempering tab.
- Place eligible gear in the item slot. The interface shows which recipe categories are available for that item.
- Choose an available category, then select the specific affix you want from its recipe. The result has a range, so the value applied can vary.
- If you want another roll, reroll within the same category. A reroll may produce a lower value rather than an improvement.
Tempering costs materials rather than gold, according to the current guide. Material families vary by gear type, and exact quantities depend on the item and level, so use the live Blacksmith display rather than treating a listed cost as universal. Current Tempering Guide

Can you choose a temper affix?
Yes. Under the Season 11 overhaul described by Blizzard and the current Season 13 guide, you select a specific affix rather than having one randomly drawn from the manual. Rerolls remain tied to the category you chose. The rework also reduced items to one tempered affix and added a base affix to non-Unique gear. Where do I find Temper Manuals, and how do I learn one?
Find manuals as drops, then use one from your inventory to learn its recipe. Manuals come in Magic, Rare, and Legendary tiers. The current guide says higher tiers improve the possible affix range while retaining the same affixes; they do not unlock a different affix set. Learned recipes are account-wide in the described game state. Current Tempering Guide · Class Manual Guide

Where is the Tempering Recipes tab?
Open the Codex of Power and select the Tempering Recipes tab. It is the in-game catalog for learned recipes and the best place to inspect what is available to your character. Manuals are organized around six established recipe categories: Weapon, Offensive, Defensive, Utility, Mobility, and Resource. Which categories can be applied depends on the item; most items offer two category choices, while amulets have a broader choice. Check the item’s live display for its eligible categories. All Temper Manuals: what can be verified
The Codex provides the complete recipe list for the classes and manuals currently present in your game. The current overview links manuals for Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Rogue, Sorcerer, and Spiritborn; a broader index also includes Paladin and Warlock. Because the available class roster and game content can change by season, those lists should not be treated as a verified, exhaustive roster for every current game state. A fully verified current table of every manual, recipe name, eligible slot, and affix value is not established here. Rather than present a guessed or outdated list as complete, use the Codex’s Tempering Recipes tab to confirm exact names and values in your version of the game. For an individual recipe, compare the item’s eligible category, the affix effect, the range offered by your learned tier, and whether it supports your build.
What changed from older Tempering guides?
Older explanations may describe random affixes from a manual, or temper counts and reroll limits based on Normal, Sacred, and Ancestral item tiers. Those descriptions predate the Season 11 changes and should not be used as instructions for the current system. The current guide instead describes choosing the affix and a restoration route when charges are exhausted. Blizzard’s Season 11 itemization announcement · Current Tempering Guide

When you run out of charges
Check the current Blacksmith interface and its Scroll of Restoration guidance. The current guide says a Scroll restores charges and identifies Infernal Hordes chests and the Dark Citadel as sources. Confirm availability and requirements in your live game, since those details may vary with updates. Current Tempering Guide
