What is MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls?
It is a Marvel fighting game built around team battles. Those figures are promotional claims from PlayStation’s launch material, not an independently verified count of the roster or its current post-launch size.
The game brings together PlayStation Studios, Arc System Works, and Marvel Games. The announcement highlighted Arc System Works’ approach to character movement and feel, presenting the game as a distinct take on Marvel characters rather than simply identifying it as a crossover fighter.
When did it release, and what platforms were announced?
The announcement on June 4, 2025 gave a 2026 release window and named PS5, Steam, and Epic Games Store. On February 12, 2026, PlayStation announced August 6, 2026 as the release date for PS5 and PC. Since that date is now in the past, it should not be described as an upcoming release. The available official information does not establish whether it is currently available in every regional store.

PlayStation’s official FAQ listed the online launch time as Thursday, August 6 at 3:00 PM UTC, corresponding to 8:00 PM Pacific on August 6 and midnight in Japan on August 7. These are the stated launch times, not a guarantee of current online-service availability.
How do the fights and character teams work?
The announcement calls the game a tag-team fighter. An official announcement excerpt says players need to master only one character to play, even though team fighting games generally ask players to learn several. The excerpt does not identify who made that statement, so it is best understood as a description of the intended approach—not a detailed explanation of how team selection, assists, or character control work.

PlayStation’s launch-trailer listing describes 4v4 battles. It also advertises ranked online matches and local battles. Those are launch-period feature descriptions; they do not establish the game’s current matchmaking population, online-service status, or any later roster additions.

The February 2026 release post says the game’s narrative, world, and characters were adapted for the game in collaboration with Marvel Games. It describes the story presentation as motion comics centered around manga illustrations. PlayStation’s launch-trailer listing names five Episode Mode stories and an Online Lobby, alongside ranked online matches and local battles.

For PS5, PlayStation says story mode uses DualSense wireless controller features. That is a platform feature, not a requirement for a special or newly released controller.
