Destiny 2: Renegades is a released expansion inspired by Star Wars—not a separate Star Wars game. Bungie launched it on December 2, 2025, as part of Destiny 2’s Fate Saga. It adds a campaign, the replayable Lawless Frontier activity, heat-based Blasters, new combat abilities and the Equilibrium dungeon.
What “going full Star Wars” means in Renegades
Bungie describes the expansion as “a Destiny 2 story inspired by Star Wars.” That distinction matters: Renegades borrows thematic and gameplay inspiration, but advances Destiny 2’s own story. Bungie’s launch blog says players will encounter points of similarity while the narrative remains part of the Fate Saga. The official page also carries Star Wars and Lucasfilm copyright and trademark notices; that alone does not establish further details about the licensing arrangement.

What happens in the story
Renegades follows the events of The Edge of Fate. The Nine begin unfolding plans for humanity involving the Barant Imperium, a new Cabal faction led by a figure who calls himself Dredgen Bael. The conflict includes Nightfall Station, a Barant Imperium superweapon, according to the PlayStation Store listing.
What the expansion adds
Lawless Frontier
The Lawless Frontier is a replayable activity built around Syndicate factions and notoriety. Players can take on faction missions alone or in a three-player group, with jobs such as smuggling and sabotage. Turf Wars and Invasions add competing objectives, including the option to invade other players’ activities. Jobs, Turf Wars and Invasions offer routes to notoriety and rewards, as described in Bungie’s Renegades guide.

Blasters and Renegade abilities
Blasters are a new weapon type with a heat-based ammunition system. Renegade combat abilities include airstrikes, an Imperium Behemoth and defensive shields. Together, these features give Renegades its most visible combat changes; the official guide provides details on the abilities and activity systems.
Equilibrium dungeon
The Equilibrium dungeon opened on December 13, 2025. Bungie said access was included for owners of Renegades or Year of Prophecy.

Orders
At launch, Bungie described Orders as a replacement for bounties and Seasonal Challenges, with adaptive objectives and rewards delivered through a Seasonal Hub. That is the launch-era description; consult the current game for how the system operates now.
Release date and current support status
Renegades launched on December 2, 2025, so it is available content rather than an upcoming DLC. In its Update 9.7.0 support guide, Bungie lists Renegades under Year of Prophecy and says the update’s listed content became available June 9, 2026. Bungie says it is not planning further Destiny 2 updates, while leaving open the possibility of future health or stability hotfixes.
