Halo: Reach is available through Halo: The Master Chief Collection (MCC), which supports Xbox-to-PC cross-play for supported online play. But the official MCC guide specifically excludes Campaign and Campaign Playlists, so Xbox and PC players cannot use cross-play to play the Reach campaign cooperatively.
What cross-platform play means for Halo: Reach
The cross-play guidance applies to Halo: Reach as included in MCC, not automatically to the original 2010 Xbox 360 release. Halo Support lists Reach among MCC’s six games and says the collection is available on Xbox and Windows. Halo’s 2019 announcement identifies Microsoft Store and Steam as PC distribution routes.

Halo Support says Xbox and PC players can play together online using cross-play, but its guide does not provide a Reach-specific compatibility chart for every multiplayer, Firefight, or custom-game mode, console generation, and PC storefront. Treat the answer as cross-play for supported online play—not a guarantee covering every mode or platform combination.
Can you play the Reach campaign together across Xbox and PC?
No. Halo Support’s MCC quick-start guide states that “Campaign and Campaign Playlists currently cannot use cross-play.” That restriction rules out Xbox-to-PC cooperative play in Reach’s campaign and campaign playlists.

A later official MCC update announced cooperative campaign cross-play for Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST. It does not announce the same support for Reach, so it should not be read as a change to Reach’s campaign restriction.
What you need to play together
- Access to MCC: Both players need the collection on their respective supported platform. A copy on one platform should not be assumed to grant access on another.
- An Xbox network account: Halo Support requires players to sign in with one to play MCC online on any supported platform.
- Friends and invitations: Add each other through the Xbox network friend list, then invite from the MCC in-game Roster.
- A supported online mode: Choose an online mode that allows cross-play; do not select Campaign or Campaign Playlists for an Xbox/PC session.
Halo Support’s quick-start guide says Roster invitations must be sent again after closing and reopening MCC.

How to invite an Xbox and PC friend
- Confirm both players can access MCC on their chosen platforms.
- Sign into an Xbox network account on each platform.
- Add the other player as a friend on the Xbox network.
- Open MCC and send an invitation from the in-game Roster.
- Join a supported online mode. Campaign and Campaign Playlists are not available for cross-play.
Do Xbox and PC players have different online requirements?
Yes. Halo Support’s MCC quick-start guide describes different subscription requirements: Xbox console online play requires active Game Pass; Microsoft Store PC purchasers do not need Game Pass; and Steam PC players do not need Xbox Live Gold. Requirements can change, so check Halo Support’s current guidance for your platform before subscribing.
These cross-play details concern playing in the same session. The cited official guidance does not establish a detailed Reach cross-progression policy, so it does not confirm that saves, achievements, or unlocks sync between platforms.
