Shadows of Doubt is a single-player detective stealth sandbox in which you investigate crimes across a simulated, procedurally varied city. You gather clues, connect evidence and choose how to pursue suspects; the city combines generated details with hand-crafted design rather than being wholly random.
What is Shadows of Doubt?
Developed by ColePowered Games and published by Fireshine Games, Shadows of Doubt is set in an alternate, hyper-industrialized 1980s. It is a first-person investigation game with stealth and immersive-sim elements: you play a private investigator solving murders and other crimes in a persistent city. Its full release on Steam was September 26, 2024, after entering Steam Early Access on April 24, 2023. Steam describes it as a procedurally generated sandbox stealth game.

How does the procedural city affect investigations?
Citizens have names, jobs, homes, routines, preferences and relationships, and continue living their simulated lives while you investigate. Generated runs can vary in their cities, buildings, addresses, citizens, cases, culprits and clues. ColePowered Games characterizes the design as a mix of procedural generation and hand-crafted work, with rooms across buildings available to explore; it is not a promise that every element is randomly assembled. The developer’s game page explains that combination.
The practical effect is that you follow evidence through a living setting rather than relying only on one fixed clue trail. The case asks you to observe, investigate and make connections, while the particular people and places you encounter can differ between runs.

What do you do during a case?
You collect and connect evidence, then decide how to get the information you need. The Steam listing names call histories, passwords, private emails, conversations with persons of interest, CCTV footage and fingerprints among the possible sources. You can record findings on an investigation board. A discarded receipt, for example, may point you to a location where camera footage can help verify a lead.
Approaches are alternatives, not a single required sequence. Depending on the situation, you might interview someone, search documents, hack security, pick a lock, sabotage a system, bribe a citizen or break into an apartment. The mix of records, physical clues and access decisions is central to the detective-stealth premise. The Steam product page lists these investigation tools and approaches.
