Overwatch is the closest match to Marvel Rivals among these picks: both are team-based hero shooters built around distinct characters, roles and objectives. The biggest difference is perspective—Overwatch is played from a first-person view, while Marvel Rivals uses a third-person view. For other flavors of the experience, consider Paladins for customizable champions, Team Fortress 2 for class-based combat, or THE FINALS for destruction-heavy arenas.

These games share selected ingredients with Marvel Rivals, not an identical match loop. Use the guide below to choose based on what you want to keep—and what you are willing to change.

Which games are closest to Marvel Rivals?

The best fit depends on which part of Marvel Rivals you want to carry over. Overwatch is the clearest alternative for objective-based hero-shooter matches; Paladins offers more loadout customization, while Apex Legends and VALORANT retain character abilities but use very different match structures.

What you want Game What carries over What changes
Objective-based hero-shooter matches Overwatch Hero roster, team roles, objectives and coordinated abilities First-person perspective and less emphasis on destructible environments
More character-build choices Paladins Champions, team roles and objective matches Fantasy setting and card/loadout customization
Class-based team combat Team Fortress 2 Distinct combat roles and coordinated teams Class structure and match feel differ from modern hero shooters
Destructible arenas THE FINALS Team combat in changing environments 3v3v3 cashout matches rather than a direct hero-objective loop
Hero abilities in a battle royale Apex Legends Character kits and squad coordination Survival and last-squad-standing rules replace arena objectives
Tactical gunplay and utility VALORANT Distinct characters with abilities and team coordination Round-based attack-and-defend sites and a slower tactical rhythm
A MOBA-shooter hybrid Deadlock Hero kits and team fights Lane-based hybrid structure makes it a more distant fit

This is a preference guide, not a measured ranking: the available comparisons do not establish controlled gameplay results, player-count advantages or a universal “best” beyond the closest format match.

1. Overwatch: the closest match for objective-based hero-shooter play

Start here if what you enjoy most in Marvel Rivals is choosing a distinct hero, filling a team role and fighting over objectives with coordinated abilities. Overwatch organizes heroes into Tank, Damage and Support roles, making team composition a visible part of the match. Its first-person perspective changes how aiming and situational awareness feel, and it places less emphasis on destructible environments than Marvel Rivals.

Choose Overwatch if you want a familiar team-objective foundation and are comfortable with a different camera perspective. It is a close genre match, not a one-for-one replacement. PCGamesN’s comparison describes its objective-based hero-shooter format and role structure.

2. Paladins: customizable champions and team roles

Paladins is worth considering if you want character-based team matches but would like more room to customize how a champion plays. Its card and loadout system gives that build choice a prominent role, while its fantasy setting distinguishes it from Marvel Rivals’ superhero battles.

Pick it for customization rather than expecting the same balance, availability or moment-to-moment feel. The shared ingredients are champions, team roles and objective matches—not identical systems. PCGamesN’s alternatives guide discusses Paladins’ customization and team-play similarities.

3. Team Fortress 2: class-based team combat

Team Fortress 2 is a fit if the appeal is coordinating distinct combat roles with teammates. Its class-based structure delivers recognizable role differences, but the way those classes shape a match is not the same as a modern hero shooter’s character roster and abilities.

Choose it for team coordination and class identity, not for a replica of Marvel Rivals’ match flow. The comparison source identifies it as a class-based alternative, while noting that its structure and feel differ from newer hero shooters. Read the comparison.

4. THE FINALS: team fights in destructible arenas

If changing environments are what you want to preserve, THE FINALS offers a different route: its matches emphasize destruction and shifting arenas. It is not a direct hero-objective substitute, though. The cited format is 3v3v3 cashout, which gives matches a different team structure and goal.

Choose it for environmental destruction and team competition, rather than for the same hero roster or objective loop. PCGamesN’s guide contrasts its destruction-focused matches with Marvel Rivals.

5. Apex Legends: character abilities in a battle royale

Apex Legends keeps character kits and squad coordination but moves them into a battle royale. Instead of repeatedly contesting arena objectives, teams focus on survival and being the last squad standing. That change affects the whole rhythm of play, even though the character abilities may feel familiar.

Pick Apex Legends if you want hero-like abilities in a survival match, not if objective-based arena combat is the part you most want to retain. PCGamesN’s alternatives guide treats it as an adjacent fit for its character abilities and squad play.

6. VALORANT: tactical rounds and ability utility

VALORANT pairs distinct characters and team coordination with precise gunplay, but its round-based attack-and-defend structure is a substantial departure. Teams contest sites in tactical rounds, producing a slower, more deliberate rhythm than a hero-shooter arena match.

Choose it if careful positioning, gunplay and ability utility appeal more than the faster-feeling objective format. It shares character abilities and coordination, not Marvel Rivals’ core match structure. PCGamesN’s comparison describes its tactical-round distinction.

7. Deadlock: a more distant MOBA-shooter hybrid

Deadlock combines hero kits and team fights with a lane-based hybrid structure. That makes it relevant if you want character abilities and coordinated battles but are open to a game that departs further from a conventional hero-shooter loop.

It is the most distinct fit in this group: approach it as a MOBA-shooter hybrid, not as a direct Marvel Rivals substitute. Its access status is not established here, so check its current official listing before planning to play. PCGamesN’s guide identifies its lane-based hybrid design.
