How big is Atomfall’s map?
There is no defensible official measurement of Atomfall’s map in acres, square miles, or another area unit. Rebellion describes the world as several connected open-world areas and interconnected maps. That structure is more useful than an unsupported land-area estimate: you explore distinct locations linked into a broader world rather than traversing one uninterrupted map.

How many regions are in the base game?
PCGamesN’s March 2025 map guide presents the base game as five regions. This is a guide’s region count, not a developer-published technical specification or a measurement of how much land the regions cover. Five regions do not establish acreage, square mileage, or a direct size comparison with another game.
How does the connected-region design affect exploration?
Rebellion Head of Design Ben Fisher told the Epic Games Store that the map was shaped in part by questions about open-world conventions. He said the team did not want the finished map “covered in icons” directing players from objective to objective, describing that kind of cognitive overload as wearing. The interview instead emphasizes navigating through the surrounding landmarks.

That design affects how the world’s scale feels: the focus is on exploring and observing places, not clearing a dense checklist of map markers. It does not, however, provide a measured area or a basis for claiming a particular exploration time.
Does Wicked Isle make the map bigger?
Yes. Rebellion’s Head of Design Ben Fisher described the Wicked Isle expansion as “an entirely new area” accessible by boat from the village of Wyndham. It adds territory beyond the base-game regions, so a count for the base game should not be treated as the total for every version of Atomfall with expansions.

What is Atomfall’s setting?
Atomfall is set in a fictional quarantine zone in Northern England, five years after the Windscale disaster, according to PlayStation’s official game description. That setting provides the backdrop for the connected areas; it does not supply a real-world area measurement for the playable map.
