The scarecrow field puzzle in Silent Hill f takes place during Hinako’s second visit to Ebisugaoka. Read each clue, remove the nail from the matching scarecrow, then follow the figure’s direction to the next group. You must solve five groups to leave the field. The correct figures change with riddle difficulty, so use the sequence for Story, Hard, or Lost in the Fog—not a route from another setting.
How the scarecrow field puzzle works
- At each group, inspect the central scarecrow and read its clue before choosing a figure.
- Match the clue to a nearby scarecrow. Compare details such as hair, pose, weapon, expression, position, and which figures are looking at one another.
- Remove the nail from the matching figure. It will contort and point toward the next group.
- Follow the direction through the fog and repeat until you have cleared all five groups.
Choosing the wrong scarecrow triggers an attack. If you are aiming for the Acupuncture Specialist trophy or achievement, complete the full field puzzle without a wrong selection. The route below is organized by riddle difficulty because the clues and answers differ between settings.
Story difficulty solution
Use the clue on each group’s central scarecrow first; these descriptions are visual checks for the matching figures.
- Choose the left figure holding a sickle. PC Gamer also describes this figure as looking down at the floor.
- Choose the middle figure that is not holding a sickle. PC Gamer describes it as short-haired and Hinako-like, with a Rinko-like figure looking at it.
- Choose the right-hand figure with its head upside down. It resembles Hinako.
- Choose the middle figure with its arms extended, looking sideways.
- Choose the figure at the back that is strung up like a cross.
Hard difficulty solution
- Choose the figure behind and to the left of the starting scarecrow. It is smiling and has a mask on the back of its head; the mask is frowning.
- Choose the middle figure with a sickle in its back.
- Choose the figure at the back that no other scarecrow is looking at.
- Choose the figure on the right with a frown.
- Choose the middle-back figure strung up like a cross, with a sickle in its back.
Lost in the Fog difficulty solution
- Choose the figure on the left with its head upside down.
- Choose the figure at the back, strung up like a cross, with a sickle in the ground.
- Choose the figure behind the fallen boy figure that is holding no sickle.
- Choose the middle figure between the Shu-like and Rinko-like figures that are looking at each other.
- Do not search the nearby group for the last answer. Follow the pointing arms of the four fallen figures until you reach the lone scarecrow northwest by the hay bales; it resembles Hinako.
Before you make a selection
- Check the riddle difficulty for the save you are playing; the field’s sequence depends on it.
- Read the in-game clue at every group rather than relying on position alone. Some figures can be distinguished by their expression, weapon, pose, or relationship to the others.
- At the final Lost in the Fog stage, treat the arms as directions to follow, not as a clue to choose among the nearby figures.
PowerPyx’s detailed walkthrough lists the five selections for each riddle setting, with PC Gamer’s descriptions providing additional visual context. Silent Hill Memories also covers the puzzle. These are walkthrough sources rather than official developer documentation, so use the clue text and arrangement in your game as the final check: PowerPyx, PC Gamer, Silent Hill Memories.
