How to Disable the Selûnite Outpost Statues in Baldur’s Gate 3

The Selûnite Outpost statues are powered by a Moonstone, not a statue-alignment puzzle. Destroy the glowing stone with a ranged attack to shut them down.

To get past the Selûnite Outpost defenses in Baldur’s Gate 3, destroy the glowing Moonstone held by the large statue of Selûne. It powers the two statues beside the gate; there is no statue-rotation or moon-phase alignment puzzle to solve.

How to disable the Selûnite Outpost statues

  1. Find the large statue of Selûne in the center of the outpost in the southeastern Underdark during Act One. Look for the bright Moonstone it holds.

  2. Target the Moonstone with a ranged attack and destroy it. The Moonstone is an environmental object with 1 hit point, and a ranged attack lets you reach it without walking up to the gate.

  3. Once the Moonstone is destroyed, the two defensive statues beside the gate shut down.

What happens if the defenses are active?

The statues fire radiant blasts at creatures approaching or leaving the gate. According to the bg3.wiki Selûnite Outpost reference, each Moonlight Artillery attack deals 2d6 radiant damage in a 4 m (13 ft) radius; a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw halves the damage. A party member approaching the raised portcullis can trigger the trap, and a nearby Minotaur may also run into the attack.

Reward for destroying the Moonstone

Destroying the Moonstone grants the “Shatter the Moon” inspiration to party members with the Acolyte background, according to the bg3.wiki reference. The trap’s activation can prompt Wyll to warn, “Watch your step. Someone’s laid out the unwelcome mat.”

Is this really a statue puzzle?

“Statue puzzle” is a common way to describe the obstacle, but it is more accurately a trap powered by the Moonstone atop Selûne’s statue. The supported solution is to destroy that stone; the available walkthrough evidence supports shooting it, and does not establish a dependable non-destructive way to deactivate the defenses. A walkthrough describing the ranged solution is available at TheGamer’s Selûnite Outpost guide.
