Spoilers for Sam Ayou’s story: Yes. Robin can cure the Frozen Leviathan by retrieving Sam’s Kharaa Antidote from a Spy Pengling cave in the Glacial Basin and injecting it at the Phi Excavation Site. This optional objective is not required to finish the main game.
What you need
- A Spy Pengling and its remote to retrieve the antidote from the hidden cave.
- Access to the Frozen Leviathan at the Phi Excavation Site, where you will use the sample injection machine and nearby terminal.
How to cure the Frozen Leviathan
- In the Glacial Basin, locate the cave where Sam hid the Kharaa Antidote.
- Use the Spy Pengling and remote to guide it into the cave, then retrieve the antidote.
- Bring the antidote to the Frozen Leviathan at the Phi Excavation Site.
- Place the antidote in the sample injection robot beside the creature, then activate the nearby terminal.
After the injection, the pustules disappear and a brief story scene or dialogue follows.
Why the cure is easy to miss
The antidote is not at the Frozen Leviathan. You must first find it in the Glacial Basin cave using the Spy Pengling. Because curing the creature is a side objective rather than a main-story requirement, you can complete the game without doing it.
What curing it means for Sam’s story
The cure completes one of Sam’s efforts to contain Kharaa and gives Robin a measure of closure. After the injection, Al-An says, “I believe the antibacterial agent was effective,” according to a community-maintained transcript of the in-game dialogue. This is fictional dialogue about the game’s fictional bacterium, not real-world medical information.
