Sometimes—but adding someone to your Microsoft family group does not automatically give them access to your PC games. The answer depends on who owns the game or subscription, whether the specific title supports Xbox Play Anywhere, and the device and account licensing rules that apply. Playing your own purchase on PC, sharing it with another person, and sharing PC Game Pass are separate questions.
First, identify what you want to share
- Your own Xbox purchase on your PC: Check whether that exact game supports Xbox Play Anywhere. For supported titles, the purchaser can access the game across Xbox and Windows PC under the applicable account and license rules. This is not a general promise that every Xbox game has a PC version. Xbox Play Anywhere and the game’s own listing are the places to verify eligibility.
- Your game with another person’s PC account: This depends on the game’s sharing model and the device licensing rules. Microsoft family-group membership alone does not transfer ownership or guarantee the title will appear in another person’s library.
- Your PC Game Pass subscription with family: Do not assume every family member receives a separate entitlement. Microsoft’s Digital Goods Usage Rules associate PC Game Pass access with the subscribing Microsoft account and describe use on compatible Windows devices. Check the current terms for the subscription and account in question.
Microsoft’s product-sharing documentation says users of Windows and Xbox devices can share digital purchases with others in their household, but the documentation describes product and device licensing rather than guaranteeing identical sharing for every game or subscription.

Does a Microsoft family group share PC games?
No—not by itself. A Microsoft family group is used for family account management, including controls such as purchase approval for children. Those settings do not determine who holds a license to a particular game. Microsoft’s family features guidance explains family controls; it does not say that adding a member automatically shares PC game ownership.
If a child needs to play a game
Use family settings for the controls they are designed for, such as requiring adult approval for purchases. Then check separately whether the child’s account and device have access to the game under that title’s licensing rules. Purchase approval is not a game-sharing switch.

Does Home Xbox sharing apply to a family member’s PC?
Do not assume that a console’s Home Xbox behavior creates a shared PC library. Microsoft’s product-sharing model covers Windows and Xbox devices, but actual access depends on the product’s sharing model and account or device licensing. The documentation also describes an option in the Microsoft Store app to designate a Windows device as the account’s offline PC. That device detail is not a blanket entitlement for every family member or every game.

- Find the exact game listing. Confirm that the title supports Xbox Play Anywhere; eligibility is specific to the game, not a feature of all Xbox purchases.
- Use the account that bought the game. Microsoft advises using the purchasing Microsoft account to find and install downloads.
- Check the platform and device. Confirm that the listing supports the Windows device or storefront you are using. Availability can differ between devices.
- Follow the current store and license instructions. A Play Anywhere entitlement concerns access across Xbox and PC for the applicable account; it does not automatically give a second person an independent license.
For download issues, Microsoft’s download guidance covers finding and installing Microsoft Store purchases. Check both the account used and the supported platform before treating a missing download as a sharing problem.
