Yes. In the ordinary librarian trading system, a villager can offer an enchanted book with Sharpness V. The book and enchantment level are randomized, so you may need to reroll several offers. The exception is a world with the optional Villager Trade Rebalance experiment enabled: Sharpness is not in that experiment’s librarian trade pool.
When a librarian can sell Sharpness V
In the ordinary trade system, librarians can offer enchanted books with randomized enchantments and levels. Sharpness V is one possible offer, but there is no guarantee that a particular librarian will sell it—or that it will appear after only a few attempts. The usual approach is to inspect an eligible librarian’s book offer and try again with a new, uncommitted librarian if it is not the one you want. See the Minecraft Wiki’s librarian trade reference for the ordinary trade mechanics.
How Villager Trade Rebalance changes the answer
The optional Villager Trade Rebalance experiment changes the librarian book pool. Under that experimental pool, Sharpness is unavailable from librarians, so repeatedly rerolling librarian offers will not produce Sharpness V.
| Trade setup | Can a librarian offer Sharpness V? | Biome-dependent books? | Must the setting be enabled? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ordinary trades | Yes; the enchanted book and level are randomized. | No biome-based pool described for this setup. | No. |
| Villager Trade Rebalance experiment | No; Sharpness is not in the experimental librarian pool. | Yes; the experiment introduces biome-specific librarian books. | Yes; it is an optional experiment in the documented releases. |
Mojang’s Java Edition 1.20.2 release notes describe the experimental biome-based librarian changes and note that some enchantments were removed from village trading. The Bedrock 1.20.30 release notes likewise say the experimental trade changes must be enabled in the world’s Experiments menu. The trade rebalance reference lists Sharpness as absent from the experimental librarian pool.

Check your world before rerolling
The relevant distinction is whether the rebalance experiment is active, not simply whether you play Java or Bedrock. Mojang documented the experiment in Java 1.20.2 and Bedrock 1.20.30; for later releases or snapshots, check that version’s notes and the world’s experiment settings, since the documented details do not establish the trade pool for every later build.
- Check the world’s experiment settings for Villager Trade Rebalance. If it is enabled, librarian rerolls will not yield Sharpness.
- In an ordinary-trade world, use a librarian whose trades have not been locked by trading.
- Inspect the enchanted-book offer. If it is not Sharpness V, reroll only while the villager’s trades remain uncommitted; trading with the villager locks its trades.
- Repeat with new librarian trades until Sharpness V appears.
Use the book on an anvil
Once you have the book, apply it to a compatible item using an anvil. Sharpness increases melee attack damage. Microsoft’s Introduction to Enchantments explains the enchantment and the anvil process for combining an enchanted book with an item.
