For ordinary hostile mobs in the Overworld, light the ground and nearby spawnable spaces you want to protect. A world rule can disable spawning more broadly, but it does not target one area.
How to stop ordinary hostile mobs locally
Place in-game light sources so the area has no dark spawnable spots. This is the simplest local approach for ordinary Overworld hostiles. The exact light requirement depends on the mob, edition, and version: Microsoft’s Bedrock creator documentation says hostile mobs typically spawn at light levels 0–7, while a general Minecraft tutorial describes current-version Overworld monsters as spawning only in complete darkness. Neither statement should be treated as a universal rule for every mob or dimension.

Check the spaces mobs could spawn in, not just the center of the area. If a particular mob still appears, its conditions may differ, or the spawn may be coming from somewhere outside the lit area.
Why lighting may not stop every mob
Spawning is governed by more than brightness. Microsoft’s Bedrock documentation lists filters for biome, brightness, height, density, difficulty, and player distance. A creature may therefore have conditions that lighting alone does not address. The cited Bedrock references explain creator-system mechanics; they are not a complete comparison of Java and Bedrock behavior.

If lighting does not solve the problem, check the spawn conditions for the specific mob and edition you play. Also consider whether the mob is appearing from a source or location beyond the area you are trying to protect.
Can you turn off mob spawning with a command?
In Bedrock Edition, Microsoft documents the domobspawning game rule as controlling whether mobs spawn into the game. This is a broad world-level setting, not a local-area filter. Command availability may depend on permissions, cheats, and platform.

Use this option only if you want to affect spawning across the world rather than protect one patch of ground. The documentation cited here establishes the rule’s broad effect, not a way to limit it to selected coordinates.
