If you finished Space Marine 2 and want something similar, the right next game depends on which part you liked most: the Warhammer 40,000 setting, the third-person melee and shooting, or the co-op campaign. The five picks below each keep one or more of those traits, and each is described only from its publisher or platform listing, so you can see exactly what carries over and what changes.
What Space Marine 2 gives you, and what to look for next
Before choosing a successor, it helps to separate the traits that define the game. Space Marine 2 launched on September 9, 2024 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Focus Entertainment describes a campaign that can be played alone or with friends, with a three-player co-op option that can be filled by friends or AI. Warhammer Community’s multiplayer announcement describes three-player Operations missions and 12-player versus modes. Those modes were described at announcement, so check the current build before you assume they are unchanged. Saber’s support FAQ calls the game a third-person shooter set in Warhammer 40,000, and PlayStation’s product page emphasises intense third-person action against large enemy encounters.
That gives four traits to match against other games:
- Setting: the Warhammer 40,000 universe, or another science-fiction war setting.
- Perspective: third-person action, first-person shooting, or role-playing.
- Co-op: whether you want to play with friends, with AI, or alone.
- Pace: large horde fights, tactical encounters, or repeatable missions.

The picks
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide
Darktide is the most direct continuation of the setting. It is a Warhammer 40,000 game in its own right, so if the universe itself is what hooked you, it is the place to start. The official listing confirms the title and setting, but the details that matter most for a purchase, such as current classes, modes and platforms, change over time. Read the current store page before buying.
#1 Best Overall
- Embody the superhuman skill and brutality of a Space Marine. Unleash deadly abilities and devastating weaponry to obliterate the relentless Tyranid swarms. Defend the Imperium in spectacular third-person action in solo or co-op modes.
- Purge the relentless Tyranid swarms as legendary Space Marine Titus in a spectacular new campaign. Play solo or with up to 2 friends in 3 player co-op.
- Enjoy intense, gory and fast-paced third-person action with hundreds of enemies on screen, from the creators of blockbuster co-op shooter World War Z.
- Standard edition includes: Base game, Macragge’s Chosen DLC, with 3 unique cosmetics for your Bolt Rifle, Chainsword & Power Armour
Helldivers 2
Helldivers 2 is the strongest pick if co-op is the main draw. PlayStation lists it as a co-op shooter for PS5 and PC in which players can team up with three friends, for squads of up to four. It changes the setting completely: you fight alien enemies in a science-fiction war rather than the Imperium’s wars. What carries over is the sense of a squad pushing through hostile ground together, not the Space Marine identity.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun
Boltgun keeps the 40K setting but changes the perspective. PlayStation describes it as classic, frenetic first-person shooting with visuals inspired by the 1990s. Choose it if you want the Warhammer atmosphere in a faster, retro-styled shooter rather than a third-person action game. Its co-op options are not stated in the listing we used, so do not assume a multiplayer match with Space Marine 2.
Rank #2
- Easy to use
- Value for money
- Durable & Design
Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader
Rogue Trader is the change-of-pace option. It is a Warhammer 40,000 role-playing game, so it shifts the focus from combat reflexes to character building, decisions and lore. If you enjoyed the story and world of Space Marine 2 more than the combat, this is the 40K pick to try.
World War Z
World War Z is an adjacent pick rather than a close match. PlayStation names it as a co-op shooter from the creators of Space Marine 2. That studio connection suggests a similar approach to cooperative action, but it does not mean the two games share the same combat, setting or structure. Check its own store listing for its modes and platforms before you decide.

Where to look for more
This list is limited to games whose official platform and publisher listings support their description. PC Gamer’s 2026 guide to Warhammer 40,000 games is a useful place to find more titles to consider.
