Trials of Mana is Square Enix’s 3D remake of the 1995 RPG, with a class and ability system. Character selection affects the story and companions, so Hawkeye’s class choice is one part of a wider party decision. The official overview confirms the general class system; the detailed Hawkeye paths and role descriptions below come from secondary class guides, not an official Square Enix class chart.

Which class should you choose for Hawkeye?
| Path | Best fit | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| Ninja → Ninja Master | Elemental techniques, magic attacks, and multi-target debuffs | Elemental resistance can blunt both damage and debuff utility. |
| Ranger → Rogue | Projectile offense and traps | Guide analysis emphasizes luck-oriented projectile attacks and trap utility. |
| Ranger → Nomad | Flexible support with melee or critical-hit options | Its unusual buffs and debuffs may fit some parties better than others; relative value depends on difficulty and build. |
| Ninja → Nightblade | Status effects and enemy control | Some status effects have limited value against bosses, according to one guide’s analysis. |
Use the table as a role comparison, not a tier list. Think about what the rest of your party already does, how often your targets resist elements, and whether your current challenge is regular encounters or bosses. Guides disagree on the relative strength of some options because they evaluate different difficulties and party setups.
Hawkeye’s class paths
Secondary class references give Hawkeye this branch map. The Light and Dark labels describe each branch choice in those guides:
#1 Best Overall
- Revamped 3D graphics - Trials of Mana is Full 3D remake of the third game in the Mana series, originally released in Japan as Seiken Densetsu 3
- Pick your party - Players can choose their favorite protagonist and 2 companions from 6 different characters. The story will play out in different ways depending on the combination of the protagonist and companions in the party
- Class changing - Raise your level and become the top-level classes; Character's appearance and the magic and special attacks that they can learn will change depending on which class is selected and the light/dark alignment
- First class choice: Ranger (Light) or Ninja (Dark).
- From Ranger: Nomad (Light/Light) or Rogue (Light/Dark).
- From Ninja: Ninja Master (Dark/Light) or Nightblade (Dark/Dark).
Square Enix’s reviewed overview confirms that the remake has a class system, but it does not publish this detailed Hawkeye progression. Treat the branch map and role comparisons as guide-based information rather than official recommendations.
What each later class contributes
Ninja Master: elemental pressure and broad debuffs
Community guide analysis describes Ninja Master as a route for magic attacks and debuffs that can affect multiple targets. The earlier Ninja toolkit includes Shuriken and four elemental ninja moves, according to a detailed community guide. That guide says Water Diversion, Fire Diversion, and Thunder Technique apply stat debuffs. It also warns that if an enemy absorbs or nullifies the elemental move, the associated debuff is negated too. Check enemy resistance before counting on an elemental technique for support.

- Revamped 3D graphics -Trials of mana is full 3D remake of the third game in the mana series, originally released in Japan as Seiken densetsu 3. The entire game has been fully rebuilt from the ground up with modern 3D graphics
- pick your party - Players can choose their favorite protagonist and two companions from six different characters. The story will play out in different ways depending on the combination of the protagonist and companions in the party
- class changing- raise your level and become the top-level classes. The character's appearance and the magic and special attacks that they can learn will change depending on which class is selected and the light/ dark alignment.
- rabite adornment (DLC) an in-game accessory to be worn that allows the player to gain more exp after a battle up to level 10. Rabite adornment DLC available until 21st may 2020 as a Pre-order and early purchase bonus
Nightblade: status effects and control
Secondary analysis presents Nightblade as Hawkeye’s status-effect route and describes it as having higher physical strength among his classes. Its control tools can be useful against enemies susceptible to them, but a separate guide cautions that some effects matter less against bosses. Choose it for the encounters and party role you expect to face, rather than assuming every status effect will work equally well on every target.
Rogue: projectiles and traps
Guide descriptions emphasize Rogue’s projectile attacks, luck-oriented offense, and traps. This is the more natural Ranger follow-up when you want ranged pressure and trap utility instead of Nomad’s flexible support approach. The guides do not establish Rogue as universally stronger; the fit depends on how you want Hawkeye to contribute and what your party already covers.

Nomad: flexible support and melee options
Guide analysis characterizes Nomad as a support-and-melee hybrid with unusual buffs and debuffs, alongside melee or critical-hit options. Its relative value depends on difficulty and build, so consider it when you want a more flexible contribution rather than specializing around Rogue’s projectiles and traps. The guides’ differing evaluations are not evidence of a single best route for every setup.
How Hawkeye fits the story
Square Enix’s official profile places Hawkeye in Nevarl, a desert fortress associated with a guild of noble thieves. Flamekhan raised him as an orphaned ward alongside Flamekhan’s children, Eagle and Jessica. The profile describes Hawkeye as charming and laid-back, loyal to his friends, and quick-witted. His background establishes his place in the story; it does not dictate which class will best serve your party.

Build around your party and difficulty
Class-guide advice on stats, abilities, and late-game setups varies, and no precise allocation is required for every player. Base the choice on your current needs: avoid duplicating a role your companions already perform, account for enemy resistance if you rely on elemental techniques, and distinguish between a build for ordinary fights and one aimed at bosses. The reviewed guides discuss different difficulties and party compositions, so their rankings should be read in those contexts rather than applied as a universal order.
Which Trials of Mana is this guide about?
This guide concerns the 3D remake, not the original game included in the separate Nintendo Switch Collection of Mana. Square Enix lists the remake on Nintendo Switch among other platforms. Nintendo UK identifies both a Switch Game Card edition and a download version, with a release date of 24 April 2020; Square Enix Support says the physical Switch version includes the game card. Those are region-specific product details, not a statement about current stock. Nintendo US’s reviewed listing is digital.
