Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes is worth considering if you enjoy Suda51 and Grasshopper Manufacture’s self-aware, pop-culture-heavy style and don’t need elaborate combat. Its themed game worlds and eccentric presentation carry a straightforward hack-and-slash loop that some reviewers found repetitive. It is a spin-off rather than a conventional mainline sequel.
What kind of game is Travis Strikes Again?
Travis Touchdown and Badman are drawn into the Death Drive Mk II, a fictional console whose six Death Balls lead into separate game worlds. Marvelous describes their aim as clearing the games and pursuing a wish. The result combines hack-and-slash action in themed stages with story and exploration passages between them. Marvelous Games’ official overview lays out the premise.
The action stays broadly consistent across the six worlds, while their presentation, references, side activities, and story material provide variety. That structure makes the game feel like a collection of differently framed episodes rather than a sequence of radically different combat systems.
What did reviewers like—and what did they criticize?
Personality and presentation
In its European Nintendo Switch review published January 16, 2019, Nintendo Life’s Gavin Lane scored the game 8/10 and praised its energy, collage of references, and fourth-wall awareness. Lane called it “a fun, indie-inflected blast of hack-and-slash.” The review presents it as an indie-spirited accompaniment to the series, not a substitute for a mainline sequel. Combat and rough edges
The main reservation in that review is that the combat loop can feel repetitive and lacks the depth of more intricate action games. Critic excerpts collected by Metacritic likewise show a mix of praise for the writing, style, and accessible action and criticism of repetition, camera behavior, or roughness. Those excerpts reflect individual publications’ views, not a single universal verdict.
Is it co-op?
Yes. The Switch listing specifies local, single-system play for one to two players. Nintendo Life describes the co-op as drop-in/drop-out, local play on a shared screen. Nintendo notes that each multiplayer participant needs a compatible controller. This is local co-op, not an online multiplayer feature established by the cited listing. Nintendo UK’s game and DLC page lists the player range and controller note.

Which edition includes the DLC?
| Version | What the cited listing says | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch physical release | Nintendo says the retail package included a code for the Season Pass. | For a used copy, ask whether the code has already been redeemed; Nintendo’s page does not establish the status of any individual resale copy. |
| Nintendo Switch digital | Nintendo listed the game with the Season Pass as a bundle, or the pass separately. Its page says the DLC packs cannot be purchased separately. | Check the current regional Nintendo listing for availability and included content. |
| PlayStation 4 and Windows PC Complete Edition | Marvelous describes both DLC packs as included. Steam’s Complete Edition listing names the base game, Black Dandelion, and Bubblegum Fatale. | Confirm the store’s current listing and region before buying. |
Marvelous says the PlayStation 4 and Windows PC Complete Edition released October 17, 2019, and includes the two earlier DLC packs. Those packs add Shinobu Jacobs and Bad Girl as playable characters, plus new scenarios and a game world. Marvelous USA (XSEED) details the Complete Edition; Steam lists its included content.
On Switch, Nintendo describes Black Dandelion as adding Shinobu, two skills, and a Badman story scenario. Bubblegum Fatale adds Bad Girl, skills, a Travis scenario, and the Kill Marathon world. Since the physical package’s Season Pass is a digital code, its inclusion in the original packaging does not guarantee that a secondhand code remains usable.

- Nintendo Switch Travis Strikes Again: No more Heroes
Who should play it?
- Good fit: players drawn to Suda51 and Grasshopper’s irreverent, reference-heavy presentation, or anyone looking for accessible action with local co-op.
- Less suitable: players who want deep, varied combat or expect a conventional mainline No More Heroes sequel.
- Buying tip: if DLC matters, compare the Switch package and Complete Edition carefully. For resale, verify the physical copy’s region and the Season Pass code’s status rather than assuming it is unused.
The sources establish formats and included content, not current prices, stock, or whether a particular store listing is available in your region. Nintendo’s Switch product page is an exact match for the physical game; any marketplace listing’s condition and code status need to be confirmed with that seller.
