Turok 2: Seeds of Evil is worth playing if you want a sprawling, distinctly ’90s first-person shooter with modern conveniences. Nightdive’s remaster keeps the original’s six quest levels and arsenal of more than 20 weapons, while adding options such as save-anywhere and quick warp. It is also a more practical way to play than the Nintendo 64 release—but multiplayer history differs by platform and update, so older reviews need context.
What the remaster changes—and what it keeps
Nightdive’s version preserves the core of Turok 2: a first-person shooter built around exploring large levels, pursuing objectives, and fighting with a broad arsenal. The studio advertises six quest levels and more than 20 weapons, alongside updated maps, improved AI, movement improvements, quick warp, and save-anywhere. These additions ease some of the friction of the original design without turning the game into a modern linear shooter. Nightdive’s game page lists the features and platforms.

The appeal is still tied to its scale and period style. Levels ask you to find routes and objectives rather than simply follow a tightly guided sequence. That can make exploration satisfying, but also means the game may feel less immediately readable than a contemporary shooter. Quick warp and the remaster’s navigation aids help with movement through that structure; they do not change its basic character.
How the Switch version reviewed
Nintendo Life’s European Nintendo Switch review, published August 12, 2019, rated the port 7.1/10. It praised technical improvements over the original, including a better frame rate and clearer draw distance, as well as objective markers and gyro aiming. The review’s reservations included the Switch edition’s lack of multiplayer compared with other versions available at that time. Read the full Nintendo Life review.

That score and multiplayer criticism describe the 2019 Switch release, not necessarily the game’s present feature set. Nightdive’s later update record changes the timeline: on December 1, 2025, the studio said cross-play multiplayer had become functional in Patch 2.2. That announcement is evidence of a later change, but it does not by itself confirm identical multiplayer support on every platform today. Nightdive’s Patch 2.2 notes detail the update.
Does Turok 2 have multiplayer?
Yes, Nightdive advertises network multiplayer features, cross-play capabilities, split-screen within network multiplayer, and a “Last Turok Standing” mode. Because support has varied by version and changed through updates, check the listing and current in-game options for the platform you plan to use rather than assuming every edition offers the same modes or connectivity. The 2019 Switch review and the December 2025 Patch 2.2 notes describe different points in that history.

What changed in the 2025 updates?
Next-generation console update
On October 31, 2025, Nightdive announced an update optimizing the game for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. The studio warned that starting games or matches between console generations could have issues. That warning is specific to the announcement; it should not be read as proof that the issue remains unresolved. See Nightdive’s next-generation update announcement.
Patch 2.2
Nightdive’s December 1, 2025 Patch 2.2 notes say the update covered all platforms, updated the KEX engine, improved rendering and localization, added subtitles for all cinematics, and made cross-play multiplayer functional. The notes also reported visual glitches in the next-generation update and anticipated a further fix. The available update record does not establish whether those specific glitches were later fixed, so their current status should be checked rather than assumed.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Verdict: is Turok 2 worth playing?
The remaster is the sensible starting point for most players interested in Turok 2. It retains the game’s oversized exploration-driven shooter design while adding practical navigation, saving, and presentation improvements. Its main caveat is not that it lacks value, but that its deliberately old-school pacing and platform-specific update history matter: fans of guided, fast-moving modern shooters may find the levels cumbersome, while retro fans may prefer the N64 original precisely because it is a different experience.
