The studio’s founder, Jeff Strain, said the project was cancelled after its unnamed publishing partner expressed low confidence in providing the additional funding needed to finish it. That explanation comes from Strain’s email to employees, reproduced by news outlets; it is not an independently verified account of why the publisher withdrew support.
What happened at Possibility Space
Jeff Strain founded Possibility Space under Prytania Media in 2021. On April 12, 2024, former employees publicly reported that the studio had closed. Insider Gaming documented posts by senior game designer Brendan McLeod and live director Jennifer Lane confirming the closure.
Possibility Space had been developing Project Vonnegut, but the game was never released or officially revealed. Insider Gaming reported that no official figure was available for the number of workers affected.
What Strain said led to the closure
In an email to employees reproduced by Insider Gaming and Kotaku, Strain said he met with the unnamed publishing partner after receiving questions from Kotaku about Prytania Media and Crop Circle Games. According to Strain, the partner expressed low confidence about funding the additional resources required to complete Project Vonnegut. He said the parties mutually agreed to cancel the game and that he decided to close the studio.
